Robber Baron & Main story quests

I have a question about the robber baron quest.

I know it is glitched and I’ve seen (and experienced myself as well) the game load fail glitch after battling with the bandits. What I’d like to know if is it safe to Parlay and make him leave through speech and charisma checks, if the only glitched part is the battle option. From what i’ve gathered, people still kill him by using the parlay option then stabbing him in the back or dueling, but I’d like to be sure that making him leave is safe too. If anyone knows.

I’d also like to know if there is a list of the things you have to do in order to not glitch the main quest. I know about the pestilence quest now which you have to speak with sir radzig before completing pestilence, but will there be more glitched quests afterwards? And what do I need to do to avoid glitching?

I challenged him to a duel and it got me past the game load fail.

As for main quest you pretty much have to play it how Warhorse wants you to, to not break it but it seems no matter what the monastery mission will break at least something regardless.

I had the load bucg, reloaded older savegame and went back to the quest some time later. That time I did the parley option and it worked fine. So maybe, or perhaps I caught a lucky break.
