It would be cool if you could role-play as a doctor You could try to cure people who have been lying with winches and contracted STDs you Could help Wounded soldiers There could be references to the Black Plague And Clothing that doctors would’ve wore in The 15th century You could earn money by helping the sick/injured and The way you treated your patience influences the way you are respected as a doctor. You can accidentally kill your patience and the peasants can seek out your help and you can also help animals and your name can be legendary as the best doctor in the land.
Somehow I don’t think this will be part of the main character’s abilities.
i Messaged them over Facebook and they told me to post this on the forum to get Other fans response
I certainly have an interest in Doctor gameplay, sounds like fun if not static location-wise.
if you could be a doctor you could help deliver a baby and amputate limbs from wounded soldiers that way they can’t get infections and die and you can craft Medical equipment Or by the equipment your self and Make medicine from plants In your environment
Not sure about the soldiers not getting infections part…even as late as the American Civil War 1861-65 and Great War 1914-18…up to the present day…Soldiers die from infection as do many civillians…granted fewer than in the past but…pre-antibiotic…being treated by a doctor(most were not that good) was almost a death sentence in itself!
Add to that the dirty conditions…the limited knowledge of the human body…lack of anaesthetic, the trauma of amputation etc.
An interesting RP concept…as there were some doctors around who did perform near miracles during the Black Death of the mid 14th Century…but one with significant risks…fail to cure the Lord’s son…probably be punished…others might accuse you of witchcraft and the like and like I say…a lot of your patients would die with or without…or maybe because of your intervention.
You’re right, disinfection wasn’t readily adopted by surgeons until some time after 1840 (e.g. Ignaz Semmelweis). Before that time, surgeons would easily go from cadaver examination to treating a patient without at least washing hands.
I totally back you up on this idea! Doing additional activities only improve the whole immersion of the sandbox world. Of course, they should be time related and realistic, which in case of your suggestion is true - doctors (healers) played major role in Medieval society.
Actually I think it may be. Probably not curing diseases unless he learns some herbalism, but in medieval society it was often the blacksmith who was a “medical” authority when it came to curing wounds on animals and on men. And since Henry is a blacksmith’s son, I guess he could have some basic knowledge about how to treat a wound, make a splint for a broken leg or take out a bad tooth (not that I would like to do that in a game).
let’s not forget that there is alchemy where you mix herbs to heal your wounds, i think we should also be able to heal other npcs.
And don’t forget to get wounded body parts inflamed, cause it was once thought that pus was a sign of healing.
They didn’t have a clue that it was the other way round…
With…winches?
Nice =) I like this idea… union among my favourite topics: medicine and history =)
In that case, this is gonna be my outfit (just around 200 years off, tho)

A Medieval Song about the Bubonic Plague:
“A sickly season,” the merchant said,
“The town I left was filled with dead,
and everywhere these queer red flies
crawled upon the corpses’ eyes,
eating them away.”
“Fair make you sick,” the merchant said,
“They crawled upon the wine and bread.
Pale priests with oil and books,
bulging eyes and crazy looks,
dropping like the flies.”
“I had to laugh,” the merchant said,
"The doctors purged, and dosed, and bled;
"And proved through solemn disputation
"The cause lay in some constellation.
“Then they began to die.”
“First they sneezed,” the merchant said,
“And then they turned the brightest red,
Begged for water, then fell back.
With bulging eyes and face turned black,
they waited for the flies.”
“I came away,” the merchant said,
"You can’t do business with the dead.
"So I’ve come here to ply my trade.
“You’ll find this to be a fine brocade…”
And then he sneezed.
Maybe so, then. It could work in that sense.
I think this sounds like an awesome thing to be in the game. If it is just a job that can be taken hope it might not have to be something that is required. So people who did not want to get involved with it wouldn’t have to. But those of us that did would get that many more things we could do for money and immersion into this game world. I personally thank it would be a great quality for some characters especially bard type and less physical characters to build their repertoire of what they get to do. So I"m all for it, and if the devs are checking this post I would love to see this in the game!
I really like this idea. I think it would add even more depth to the game. Maybe not some peoples cup of tea, but it can’t hurt to include things like this!
The important thing, which I’m sure the developers already know and keep in mind, is just to maintain balance between all of these features.
i agree that it would be good to have a more involved healing system even if it was only for yourself. maybe you could do basic wound dressings until your could get to a more skilled medic.
Sounds pretty cool to me.
