"Run" Quest: Can't complete

How does one complete the quest “RUN.” What do I press to gallop? I have the game fully-patched from steam. The horse’s stamina doesn’t drop, so I know I’m cantering (at best). When do I gallop versus canter? I either get killed by arrows or go too fast and the horse loses control so I bleed to death.

I’ve also followed what others said here but no luck:

Thanks!

Double tap your assigned canter button then hold it?

It’s usually Shift.

If you read the forum post you linked to and it still doesn’t work, you may have rebound keys or you may need to get a feel for it, which can be hard considering the circumstances.

I’ve completed the “Run” quest by heavily zig-zagging while cantering. You can do that to at least get into the open world part of the game where you have the time and space to sort your issue without getting peppered by arrows.

Go down the hill.
Go past Theresa and the bandits in the doorway of the cottage. Give a wide berth, but do not deviate (invisible walls block the other side of the brook).
Get just past the horse. Turn 90-degrees to right and walk to just short of getting the “X to ride” pop-up on the horse.
Click X to whistle, this will distract the Cumins.
Step one step forward. Press X to get on the horse.
Immediately hit W and (momentarily) A ( to turn left)
as soon as you have your horse aligned with the road, double type SHIFT and then hold it down immediately after the second keystroke (this is the default key for the gallop/sprint input on horseback and on foot, if you remapped it you’ll perform the same operation except on a different key).
Keep sprinting for a while toward Talmberg.
Periodically let off your Shift key and then immediately press it again once (to drop from “Sprint” speed down to “Gallop” speed).
Zig Zag to doge arrows as desired, but following this script I have not found a need for it.
carry on as above alternating between sprinting and galloping and/or dodging to get to the end of the movie and your arrival in Talmberg where you get patched up.
It is INEVITABLE that Henry gets hit by at least one arrow, but the others are “optional” and dependent on luck/player skill I suppose.
Just get through it . . . its shitty game design, but it leads to something better . . .

Thanks everyone. I just don’t get what I’m doing wrong. I keep bleeding out! What am I doing wrong?

Here’s what happens, I gallop until the 1st bridge and then it slows down. I then try to steer and turn right to the 2nd bridge. I get there and lose control often. Why is this happening on the PC? What controls should I be using and when to gallop?

Not sure if you are on the correct path. Can you post a video of your run?

Just a tip:
Go into Henry’s inventory. Check the horse speed. Now undo the horse saddle. The horse speed should now be increased…

Sounds like you are getting hit by arrows, which ideally you only get hit by one, the one that is scripted and inevitable. I had that happen on one or more of my “replays” of that section of the game. I probably tried if 3 times before I finally “did it right.”

All I can tell you is: it IS possible to breeze past them without ever taking a hit of any kind (other than the scripted arrow to the left thigh which happens during the intermediary cut scene). You’ve just got to go “in the right direction” immediately and without delay.

This is why I loathe this type of game design . . .

I suggest you check on youtube . . . here I already found one for you

FINALLY! I got it! Thanks so much everyone. The solution I found is using the arrow buttons (on the right side) to control the horse and the left side for it’s speed. Back to medieval times!
