Sarcasm and bad choices

Will there be sarcasm? Like the player, trying to see the boundaries of the map, while following a road he stumbles on a peculiar scene: a tree fell on the very narrow path, making impossible to cross and he says: “well, isn’t that convenient?”.

I personally like some of it very sporadically, but it was common back then? Wouldn’t a person get kill if they used it (in the wrong time, of course)?

Btw, will an guard attack us if we chose the “wrong” answer?

That reminds me of the humor in Bards Tale XD

Why would you be killed for sarcasm? o.O

I think you’ll know it if you choose a line that’s going to make a person attack you.
Guard: "Halt! Who goes there?"
You: "Nevermind, I’ll be off now"
Guard: “Stop right there criminal scum!”

I think combat is supposed to have a lot more impact. You could probably get into a conflict with a guard with dialogue, but I think you have to be very aggressive, to get them to fight you.

This is all just speculation, though.

@Tomohare

I really hope we won’t have any self aware jokes like this as they ruin the immersion for me. The over the top radio stuff in Mafia 2 (future tech, jokey sexist comments etc. - clearly to make the 21st Century player laugh rather than a realistic depiction of the era) is also along the lines of what I don’t want to see, great game otherwise though.

KCD should take itself really seriously and not let up IMO.

I have no problem with natural in-game sarcasm, but no ‘funny’ self aware stuff please. Leave that to GTA and the like where it is appropriate.

@GODEFROY @RGS s orry, my example was not good. What I meant was just sarcasm.

@Morcar @Anzious when I propose this I had the movie Timeline in mind (a guy gets killed because he speaks English with a French accent).

I hate sarcasm, I hope there is none, it only ruins games and message boards.

In fact, I would like no sarcasm also. The Henry that we saw in the stream seems very serious (and because he lost his parents). Not the type who would joke around.

Uh… All right, what you’re talking about is breaking the 4th wall, not sarcasm, altho your example was a sarcastic remark. And asking about its existence in the entire game … I’m not sure I’ve ever seen an RPG that wouldn’t use sarcasm to some effect in one way or another

sarcasm probably developed when people become all weak and passive aggressive

Or when they stop caring lethal weapons.

There is tale in which a father demanded his only son to be killed because he was stupid. So, thinking of people getting angry because you are being “funny” isn’t that unrealistic.

About the sarcasm: I was thinking more like an Woody Allen style.

Fairly interesting thought. I recall Pliny The Elder being fairly sarcastic at times. The word itself is around the 17th century, I think. Anyway, a bit of it wont hurt. Just not in every other scene. The protagonist cant be completely without it, no? I know some philosophic sects would be so, but not a commoner of that era. Whould have to be a bit sarcastic.

A wit is a powerful weapon of a bard. Except a lute when bashing. Or a flute, with its pointy ends.
