Before you do that go to the Alchemy station in Rattay and make Saviour Schnapps, spend some time in forests collecting the ingredients as well, Nettle x 1 and Belladonna x2 per Schnapps you can buy a limited number of these from Herbalists. This will get you some experience and provide you with enough Schnapps as you need to save your game prior to important fights.

If you are on PC then there is a way to get around the save system either by going to sleep for 1hr or by using a workaround you can find in the guides on the Steam forums.

Yes the save system is utter crap along with the Lockpicking, Pickpocketing and IMO the combat system but I can live with the last one.

Still loving the game though.

archery contest? so you were in a village? so why not take a nap at the local inn before leaving to save the game? you know how the saving works, can’t blame the game for your own negligence.

just add this thread to the pile of dumb rant threads made by people who can’t figure out how to make the game systems work for them…

Honestly, I think I am one of the few that enjoys this save system - and I don’t find it too much of a problem. Liturally just brew saviour shnapps. I found out that, at least for me, it stacks over 3. Currently I have about a dozen. Perhaps a bug, but I never use them all. And I don;t find it an issue. Money is pretty is easy in this game too, so I rarely find myself stuck without the infamous S.S (Saviour Schnapps)

Also, the bathouse will save the game when using their services. Not sure if it applies on consoles.

Also, this is like the 100th thread about how bad this save-system is. Honestly, i support the way it is now whole-heartedly and think that any change would be a detriment. I find this is not the ‘casual’ type game, not something you sit down for 30 mins. I think it more serious, where they punish you for mistakes and penalise you for cheating by over-saving (saving everytime you do something) - there is not consequence then and you can simply revert endlessly until you get your golden desired outcome.
