When I go to sharpen my sword on the sharpening wheel no sparks appear and it doesn’t seem to sharpen the sword as the damage etc stays the same, has anyone else had this?
Do u play with a mouse? If so then scroll the wheel the press it against the stone and u will see sparks, but dont press too hard xD.
I can only go by the sparks. if i see no sparks then i assume the damn sword is repaired. It isnt very good at explaining whats going on.

U have to tilt the sword into the stone. More sparks u get the better ur sharpening your sword
I’ve never seen the damage go up, only the quality go down. Even when I do it properly… I always thought it was just for getting blood off of it.
Quality going down means you’ve turned the blade way too far into the grind, and are dulling the blade. The grindstone can repair weapons to 100% if you do it properly - which isn’t a bad idea to use on all the weapons you pick up from defeated opponents that are damaged. Sells for a lot more, and you get a lot of experience in the process. Perks can increase damage of the blade.
It looks like when you do it wrong there is smoke. All I ever see are just regular sparks. I don’t know I’ll try and figure out what i’m doing wrong. I never minded because I could just use a small repair kit tell help raise my maintenance stat afterword. I always try and repair all the weapons and armor I pick up from enemies but I didn’t know you got experience for sharpening. Interesting.
Yes, if there’s black smoke, it’s turned too far in, and is damaging the blade. You only really want to turn it 15-25% of the way in to get a decent grind. Move the sword left and right. If you make progress, the damage should visibly be removed.
I always just see the blood disappear and sparks and no smoke. You are supposed to see small sparks right? I don’t know how I’m screwing this up lol
