Shiny Armour

I notice in the videos that everyone seems to wear shiny armour.
I know that steel plate armour can be burnished but it can rust inside 24 hours.
There was a process called japanning that rendered a black finish to the wearer’s armour but kept it rust free, for a while, but that seemed to be a feature of the 17th Century.
The game appears to be awesome in its scale and content am I just being too churlish and picky expecting to see moderately tarnished armour.?
Looking forward to the 13th

there will be shiny armor and not so shiny armor
the reason is that you have different effect on people (npc’s) when you wear shiny armor
like they will see you as powerful knight or something
and I think if you wear your armor long enough it will become dirty/scratchy so it wont shine as much
I’m not sure about all the things that you can wear but there are a lot of different ones

Also the people in the cinematics are mostly Lords/Knights so its kinda natural they would have shiny armours

If you lube your armour (like your sword btw) it wont rust. I have some steel armour here (in RL) and it needs not more than a little oil or grease once in a year to not rust.

Can we buy lube in-game? I really hope so :joy:

Exactly you have steel armor. I presume it is not 14th century armor? Nowadays we have different steels. Steels that rest was less. I also presume you don´t take it outside every few days? I also presume that when you do keep it at home you do live in a proper house not like made in the 14th century. All factors that matter.

Giving armors and clothes an realistic texture look is some difficlut thing between matter of opinions… Someone likes shiny and some others like muddy or worn-out.
I guess you will find many retexture modifications for your own taste
But if i remember correct WH said you have to wash your clothes or clean your armors…
I think that they include situations of every kind

Oh and cool Coat of Arms for your profile avatar

took it more than once out in the rain and had some training sessions with holmgang hamburg over the last couple years. The only thing ever happened was a rusty fingerprint on a sword after some kid touched it and never told me. i dont now what he had on his fingers but it was rusty after one week - then a took it out and noticed the spot.

its mostly from the vendel period or little later (up to 1000 ad) but we had also a guy with plate armour. For the chainmail in “neustadt-glewe”: We took it even to the water… its still shiny (and you cant dry every thingle ring ^^)

How will we be able to clean armour? Does anyone have any info on this

Wash yourself…

Does jumping in a lake count?

No, Henry can´t swim…

especially wearing plate armor
if he’d jump in a lake or river i guess he’d get even dirtier… I think they didnt have sewerage

I don’t suppose there would be showers available in the game? Perhaps a kiddie pool, since he can’t swim.

there are big round water tubs standing around for you to wash

Yeah sure, i get that for cleaning yourself, but surely you couldn’t just dunk your armour underwatrer…it’d rust no?

Washing yourself cleans the armor which you are wearing. Armor which is in the invetory stays dirty.

Hm, that’s a bit strange… but i guess it’s better than the armour just becoming clean after a while
