Should I buy this Tech Alpha?

I’m highly excited for this game after some basic research, and I’d definitely like to support it by buying the Early Access, however my question is: is the Early Access worth it?
I know it’s a tech alpha, so it won’t be at all perfect. I’m just hoping that the early access won’t ruin the full game by giving broken future features and ruining the storyline (which AFAIK isn’t actually at all included in the tech alpha?). If it doesn’t then I’ll most likely buy it anyway.

My specs for extra information:
Core i7-4770 3.4 GHz
8GB RAM
64-bit
Radeon R7 260X 2GB vRAM OC edition

Thanks for any help and apologies for what appears to be a mostly unrelated to the game question.

Is it worth it? As you said, it is just a tech alpha with some features to test. It is already possible to spend a lot of hours in it ( I have around 50) and it does not spoil story. I “know” the lead designer as pedantic perfectionalist who want his baby game to be spetial so thats why he got my money.Current fun for a cash ratio might be steep for some, but the project surely deserves my support

I have backed over 100 Kickstarter projects and there are only 2 of them that are my passion projects. Beep - A Documentary about the History of Game Sound and then Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

The reason why these projects are my passion projects because the creators have passion. They’re focused, they know what they want, they want to push the boundaries of what has existed so far, be it that specific documentary or that specific game genre.

Warhorse Studios is working on awesome and interesting stuff, that is not yet part of the alpha. E.g. the music engine is an incredible implementation that I’m looking forward to. It has not been implemented yet as far as I know because Cryengine dropped FMOD support and they had to rewrite some code to get the Cryengine to play any sound at all. (For anyone following StarCitizen game audio development: That’s the one reason SC switched Wwise.)

What else: I’ve asked the devs several questions about features, specifically medieval life simulation stuff like marriages, having children etc. and they were pretty clear on what want and most importantly not want in their game. Knowing what they don’t want seems like a limitation but actually enhances their focus on the important features that they want.

You can experience a lot of the quest system, how it works in its core mechanics, how the quests can be solved with different solutions and results and so on. The combat system has been implemented for the first time and has its flaws. The savegame feature is rudimentary, automatic and buggy. Horse is also implemented, it’s a fairly intelligent horse regarding the pathfinding and automatic jumping, but also still a bit buggy.

If you have ever played Early Access, Betas or Ubisoft games and games published by Warner Bros Games on release date, then you should definitely give it a try.

Wow thanks. I’ll definitely get the early access then. This game definitely deserves any support, thanks to its great and clearly professional devs. Thanks for the replies. How well do you think I’d run the tech alpha?

Alpha 4.0 currently has some severe optimization issues due to implementation of lot of AI entities (it seems atleast) so expect no more than 30-40fps max, varied by your current ingame location (villages and military camp are usually running very bad, rest is quite good).
Also note that increasing or decreasing graphic settings has very small effect on FPS right now.

Ah, that’s still fine. Unfortunate to hear though, but like I heard somewhere else optimisation isn’t the main goal for a tech alpha. Hopefully it is improved in the next patch. Thanks for the information though.

Your CPU actually runs at 3.5 Mhz stock. And it is a very fast CPU.

As far as the Alpha, I have it from day 1. Tried to play a couple of times, don’t like it.

Personally, I bought it in Kickstarter to help @warhorse make their game. I’m not a fan of playing non-finished things. If you wish, give it a try, but don’t have big expectations.

Well, tech. alpha is not for playing, but for testing.

Exactly. That’s why I couldn’t recommend it to @Germanic_Celt just for playing it.

On the other hand, if he wishes to help @warhorse with the development like the rest of us did, then he may pledge for Deliverance and see if the Alpha is good for him.

Well, I bought it anyway, albeit on a different account due to the website claiming this current account doesn’t exist. It’s good so far, especially for a Tech Alpha. Right now it’s already got more hours in it than some of my other games which are finished in their development.

Hello all, new here and considering buying this alpha but few questions. I am most mostly drawn to the combat side of the game and nbeing a very old schoold M&B/Warband duelist what im really looking for is that type of combat that feels really good to master. Warband has it Chivalry not so much in my opinion.

Im wondering if any other WB enthusiasts give the green light to this combat system which I think ive heard does not feature directional blocking but does have some intricacies.

I do not think that you will find M&B WB fan who will recommend you this combat system.
But it sure is interesting approach which may change a bit in the future.
If videos of combat were not enough for you to be convinced I suggest you wait for final release and then read reviews.

Untrue. As a M&B WB player I would recommend the combat system because it is a lot more realistic than M&B. Though, If you are unfamiliar with real sword techniques or are just interested in a Game, the fighting might seem odd to you.
Do as @ProkyBrambora suggests and watch some combat videos to see if its something you’d like.

Hehe, thanks for honesty guys i appreciate that. Just bought it after watching a few more videos- it looks intriguing and honestly love to support these types of endevours. Now just have to figure out how to get a weapon lol. Nice countryside btw, always wanted a Medieval Arma.

There is a camp towards the North East that you can get a sword, bow, and armor in. You have to do a few things to actually earn them but you can borrow them in the training.

Woops. Tried to upload my avatar pic here apparently.

Good as time as any to state how impressed i am with this game -fantastic immersion let alone the combat which also seems to have alot of promise. Strong sense of genuine and integrity here. Quite happy bout my purchase.
