I hope this has not been covered yet: I expect there will be skills that measure how good you are at doing something. Skills like ‘longsword fighting’, ‘archery’, ‘sheepherding’ and such. Then there will be stats like strength, agility etc.
Do you think these things will be affected by certain - dare I say it - “magical” items? Like +2 archery gloves? It’s been a standart in RPGs for decades and it’s a system which gives the player a big reason to fight and loot.
And if it will be implemented, will there be only realistic combinations (like the gloves), or are we going to see +4 fishing hats?
I ask this, because in the new spectacular video I saw the two ring slots in the inventory and I wonder what purpose would rings serve for anyone but he who chooses the bard way.
Rings are for Bling as the “kids” call it, they show your status by there fancyness
I’d hope at least one of the ring slots was for wedding band, etc.
They did mention that there wasn’t going to be any magic, but that is not to say that a ring could add bonus to your attack or defense without having to be enchanted. Or I could be wrong and they are just there for status/power symbols or just Bling as @Potter stated. I could be a cool idea if the rings your wore were like a symbol or key to get you into higher status castle and such. I mean in the medieval times peasant had to kiss the rings of great warriors, right?
There certainly will be no magic items. However, there may be items of higher quality that use essentially the same dynamic as magic items in typical RPGs. So a high quality longsword may increase your longsword skill (and thus attack speed) or perhaps will deal more lethal damage upon a successful strike. Armor I imagine will also follow this convention (better quality equals better protection bonus).
This is where the crafting in the game, or roleplaying a money-hoarding socialite, would stand out.
I don’t think we will have magic items. But I do think that certain bonuses and penalties will be associated with different qualities of items. For example a heavy armor may inhibit your agility, while a better fitted armor doesn’t limit you as much.
They have stated a couple of times, that appearance do matter. For example, In the combat or AI video, they told us about how walking around with a drawn sword might scare NPC’s. In the livestream they told us that looking big and scary might aid you in threatening people. I’m guessing rings and necklaces are there for that.
