Sleeping and Stamina

So I have thought alot about this game since I laid my eyes on it and I came up with this idea.
So practically all it does is that the more you sleep you get more stamina during the next day and if you do not sleep enough or just too little you get sleep depraved and you get less stamina during the next day.

I do not know if anyone else already had this idea on this forum, I am really new so i do not know.
Anyway i appreciate feedback and suggestions

There’s been no other thread that talks directly to this correlation between sleeping and the amount of stamina you have, so nice one for raising it. In answer to your question, as far as I’m aware the team have yet to qualify or state that the amount of sleep you get will directly impact your stamina (in any way be that positive or negative) however they have talked to the necessity for your character to sleep. If you don’t sleep you will eventually die *that type of thing.

Buffs and debuffs are obviously very common in RPG’s, so it’s not a new concept. But it would be nice to get some more thoughts on this particular idea, and maybe if one of the WH guys could make comment. I think it’s certainly an interesting notion…

Sleep doesn’t work that way. Stamina doesn’t work that way.

Why introduce clearly contrived buffs/de-buffs?

Sleep deprivation could have an impact on cognitive function, so fewer or less creative conversation choices, etc…

So based on that logic, you’re suggesting that sleep deprivation and the resulting fatigue have absolutely no impact on physical stamina and or performance?

Sleep directly facilitates good cognitive ability and function. Therefore stamina and physical performance are intrinsically tied to sleep… It’s science dude

Yeah… no… stamina is not directly impacted by lack of sleep… I can go 2 days sans sleep and still manage to hammer out a 10k in the same time. My focus, balance and ability to manage complex tasks without freaking out, however, or severely impaired.

I guess were just going to agree to disagree… But to quote the US National Library of Medicine;

ā€œā€¦ Although it is well established that sleep loss has negative effects on mental performance, its effects on physical performance are equivocal. This review examines the latter question in light of recent studies published on this problem. Sleep deprivation of 30 to 72 hours does not affect cardiovascular and respiratory responses to exercise of varying intensity, or the aerobic and anaerobic performance capability of individuals. Muscle strength and electromechanical responses are also not affected. Time to exhaustion, however, is decreased by sleep deprivationā€¦ā€

Time to exhaustion and stamina are almost one and the same, wouldn’t you say

Stamina is a measure of your ability to perform a physical task for a prolonged amount of time and the time your body takes to recover immediately following said task.

For a relatively fit individual, your mental agility will degrade long before your stamina.

I’m not saying sleep isn’t important or that there shouldn’t be a reward system built around it - I’m saying stamina is the wrong reward.

Sleep deprivation reduces concentration, shortens tempers and may also provide hallucinations. Accuracy, perception and conversation options are a far more realistic reward mechanism.

Some people also need more or less sleep than others. But yeah, specifically tying the amount of sleep to your stamina does not really make the best sense.

It may fit to connect sleep to how refreshed your mental state is, but I don’t even know if that’s going to factor into the game or not.

…or, possibly, healing?

ā€œSurvival is not exactly annoying, but at the same time it plays an important role,ā€ said VĆ”vra. ā€A day in-game will take about an hour-and-a-half. You will have to sleep at least once every 48 hours or else you’ll be very, very tired. If you don’t, you’ll still be able to walk and do stuff, but your stats will be much lower than usual. It’ll be harder for you to fight. Sleep, meanwhile, gives you an advantage. You’ll get a boost. You can prolong waking time by drinking alcohol or some potions to boost you up, but there will be drawbacks. When the effect goes away, you’ll be even more tired.ā€

I’m so pleased that this will be included, I am tired of games that give you the option to sleep and continual time tracking and time related events but don’t have any use for sleeping. It’s unnatural and although it sucks to have to sleep, the fact that you have to, makes it more realistic, it’s like prepping magical potions before you do something, except real and relatable.
