Wide, well-worn roads would be only on main highways, which most likely be improved, along the lines of Roman roads. If the story is in a remote area, I wouldn’t expect improved roads at all. Roads would see more traffic during harvest times, so between them, they may get overgrown, especially in a small, village community.
