Okay so what you are about to read is what I sent to my friend after he asked me how the game was so far. I’m very passionate about the game and mean no disrespect to the development team or (already) die hard fans, I know this game has only been released for less than 24 hours but bare with me (there’s a fair bit of reading on this one so enjoy)… “The sword combat is pretty fun, but there is one thing I am 90% sure of and that’s the fact of the game only being the most fun and rewarding once you are a much higher level. From the start your thrown into all these complicated gameplay mechanics and story elements that left me thinking “ok where the fuck do I start??”. And combat is super annoying at this point in time because I have like 1 stamina and can only make 3 hits before my dude almost dies from fatigue and even then the enemies block or dodge 2 out of 3 of your attacks so it takes a while to kill someone in combat (but once you’re a higher level then your stamina will increase and thus making it more fun)…
So far I’ve done like 4 main missions. I can definitely say that because I’m like craving that satisfaction of being a demigod in the game and having the most fun in combat, no matter how annoying or frustrating it is now it makes me want to play more just to feel that sense of achievement.
Also, there are quite a few parts of the game that could be improved upon a fair bit (such as quest direction assist and better dialogue). Because when you’re on a quest, the marker is on the top bit of your screen in the compass (like skyrim) but it is soooo freaking hard to judge where the fuck it is when you’re close to the point where you’re supposed to be, like in other owrpg’s it is a lot easier to find the quest objective because sometimes there’s even a path along the ground that you can follow but that’s not in KCD…
Oh and the annoying part of dialogue omg… So say you’re playing the witcher 3 and you skip the dialogue for one scene, but in that scene was a question for geralt to make a decision (“yes” or “no”), if you missed what the NPC was asking you to do it wouldn’t matter because at the bottom of the screen it would have in quotation marks what the NPC just asked (even though you skipped through it) so you can make the right decision… But in KCD I skipped a bit of dialogue and then the NPC was like “So are you gonna do it or not?” And I was thinking “Wtf cunt, I didn’t even know what you asked!” So I had to guess which one was the better option ”
So basically the combat is difficult, the game doesn’t hold your hand for quest locations, and you have to actually pay attention during dialog in this story driven game? Ok. These are all the reasons I wanted this game.
Why are you skipping dialog in a RPG? That’s half the point of playing the game!
So basically if you’re willing to read through all of the dialogue (although it’s not that exciting) then that’s great! I came to fully immerse myself in the experience and as someone who has put over 350 hours into the witcher 3 with reading almost all the dialogue in that game, I can say that I am definitely someone who doesn’t mind dialogue (if it’s done right). I hope I didn’t ruin your expectations for the game, but if I did then I would recommend waiting for the game to drop in price and give it a try then
As for the combat being difficult, I believe that the more you progress the easier it will become. All the game does is give you a rough idea of where the quest location is on the map and then once your there the person that you may have to talk to (quest activation point) could be anywhere in the vicinity of about 25 meters around you.
Thing is, the npcs are active in this game. They won’t wait for you to show up at the marker. They’re busy working on their own stuff. As for combat, you’re a son of a blacksmith with no experience what so ever so it’s obviously gonna be difficult until you skill up. As for the dialogs skipping, that’s your own fault don’t blame the game for it. This game is meant to bring realism to the table. If you close your your ears in real life and miss what the person said, it’s gone, it won’t show up in white letters down below. You’ll enjoy this game when you treat it like it’s all real
Yeah that’s fair enough, maybe I’m just not used to the overwhelming sense of realism at the cost of a bit of fun.
