Space Simulators

Yeah, EVE has an in-game item that grants game time, and there was a carrier that was transporting like half a million dollars worth of this item (in real world money). The carrier got destroyed and about 3/4 of the items were destroyed in the explosion. That means that EVE made a ton of money without having to grant anybody extra game time.

Scamming and piracy are encouraged by the developers, and if you’re stupid and accept a contract that rips you off, it’s your own fault. Or if you post something in the marketplace and add an extra zero to the price, you may end up losing a lot of money on the taxes, and nobody will buy it. The devs don’t care, they won’t return the money to you.

While many people think it’s stupid that they don’t help you out if you make mistakes, I think it’s awesome. In real life, if you get scammed or conned, nobody is going to give you the money you lost.

@thebeastlyboss, I don’t know about Valkyrie, I’ve only played EVE Online. But you can get a free two week trial from the EVE website.

Has anyone here played X: Rebirth… and what it seems like from reading Elite: Dangerous might be a good option

one of the worst games ever. extremely aimless and a much more watered down and mass appeal experience than its predecessors. buggy and poorly optimized even with latest patches. avoid like the plague.

not a fan of any of the trendy space sims either. i can appreciate what they’re doing, but the ship design does nothing for me. wings in space, ughh…

only space title i’ve been keeping an eye on is limit theory. but that’s more empire management sandbox than anything.

Although I’m not a real SpaceSim player I’ve tried X: Rebirth and I can’t really recommend it. The tutorial was at that time I tried it really buggy like I didn’t know what to do. The voice-overs and character models are shallow, which is why the first impression of the game wasn’t good at all. I can’t tell how the later game looks like but the beginning (specifically the tutorial) wasn’t that impressive.

Because of that experience I didn’t want to give Elite Dangerous a try. I only backed Star Citizen and hope that it’s not going to be too hardcore SpaceSim. There are other 2D SpaceSims which didn’t feel like games of great value.

What´s about Homeworld Remastered?
Anybody?

Or really old Freelancer?
Played it twice…

Freelancer was great but my game got saved in an ambush and I could not advance in the game anymore.

Could freelancer suit my needs? Can you walk around in an open world?
Sandbox?
Single player?
Can you land on planets?
Can you customize your space ship?
Sandbox have lots to do?
First or third person ?

Firstly it is quite old game.
But it is sandbox.
And it is singleplayer

You can land on planets in sense of flying into a dock.
If I remember correctly there is no 1st person view.
You cannot also customize your ship, though you can equip weapons.
And there is not so much things to do - killing, escorting, picking up… etc.

I would not recommand it today, but few years back it was pretty fun.

Games I would consider:
EVE online
Spaceship citizen

I would recommend learning something about EVE Valkyrie looks interesting, but who knows.

And lastly Elite: Dangerous - it is quite nice and big game, but it is still in developement so it might be better to wait a bit. Things might get interesting in the future.

Hi there, thought I might add my 2 cents.

If you are considering X Rebirth, I would recommend one of the earlier entries to the franchise, namely Albion Prelude. There are a ton of really great mods out there for it, and offers alot more freedom than I felt Rebirth does.

I have spent a bit of time in both games, however Rebirth could never hold me for very long.

How do you feel about Elite: Dangerous, I honestly feel like I’ve lost interest in it after finding out you can’t exactly walk around which isn’t nice. @JonnyMc or @ProkyBrambora , do you know if you can walk around at all yet in space stations, etc.? I’ve been wondering if you can walk around at all, from what I understand you can’t walk around in ships or on planets, but I didn’t know about space stations.

Are there any other space simulators similar to my description above? Seems like all the ones I want-Limit Theory, etc. already ran their course on Kickstarter and you can’t get them now for early access… So, what else is there that fits my description above?

Yep you cannon walk around in Elite Dangerous. Though it is planned to be implemented.

I might have found what you are looking for.

No man’s sky - looks really good. The universe seems pretty vast. You can go to surface of any planet and even walk there.
Not sure about ship customization, but it seems that the game is more focused on exploration.

It did not come out yet, though. But it should be sometime this year.

I’m looking forward to No Man’s Sky. One cool feature is that you can explore planets and solar systems for the very first time and name them. I’ve never seen that in any other space sim so far, even games like Starbound only include generic names.

The only thing that bothers me is that even for an online game, it’s so far unlikely that you can play it in co-op with friends because every player is spawned somewhere else in this universe. So it could be that you and your friend(s) could be in complete opposite locations in the universe and need to travel several hours first to see each other.

Yah I would get no mans sky but its not gonna be out in summer for me to have it as my summer game… Does elite dangerous currently have its walking around feature in yet or is it not out yet, is it coming out soon?
@ProkyBrambora @YuusouAmazing

I dont imagine that it will be anytime soon.
Certainly not for this summer. but I did not find specific information about that. I am just guessing from what devs are focusing on now. Which is PvP system called Powerplay (struggle between three alliances).

Star Citizen has all those. I would suggest you just wait and buy that. Or buy Elite.

Edit. Replied to a wrong post. I ment to reply to the one where @thebeastlyboss asked if ou can land on planets and what not.

Ive seen a lot of elite dangerous footage and i’m not very impressed by it especially when i compare it to the star citizen combat.

Anything else I can play during summer?

Hey, Star Citizen should be good option for you  I’ve played it already and starting looks incredibly amazing. Also as ppl said EVE, Elite all of those games are great titles all depends what are you prefering in game such combat system, pve, trading etc.

The first illuminatus it finally happened.
