Speech appears bugged

So I’m a little confused about how speech is supposed to work. I thought I had a grasp of it, but now I’m fairly sure this shit is bugged.

So my stats are:

Strength: 20
Vitality: 20
Agility: 20
Charisma: 16
Speech: 13
Sword: 20
Intimidate: 20
Gear: Mostly Nuremberg Plate, St. George’s sword, shield, Yew Longbow. Basically top tier stuff. Reputation: 100

Every guard I’m trying to intimidate into getting this stupid brawling crime dropped fails, even though they’re all rated at intimidate 12 and their gear sucks compared to mine. But when it comes to them stopping me for things like no torch at night or random frisks for stolen goods, I’m able to intimidate them just fine. What gives?

Is the issue just in that specific situation? What’s your reputation with the guards? Is it possible they hate you? Is it possible you’re a “gross offender” that they aren’t putting up with any more?

Reputation’s 100 across the board.

It depends on the guard usually. You’ll struggle to intimidate the higher ranking guards compared to Robard for example. For instance, the guard that let you out of Talmberg at the start, pickpocket him and when you get caught you will almost definitely get away with it. Also, guards are supposed to be tough to intimidate to make the Magistrate perk more valid or balanced I guess

Nah, I get that, but at this level I should be pretty far ahead of those guys. I’ve got multiple Magistrate perks and their stat spread is way lower than mine, so it doesn’t seem like they should have parity with me. It’s not just the tougher guards either. I even sought out the guys with crappier gear thinking that was the problem, but it’s the same with them too. My stat spread doesn’t seem to be affecting speech like it should.

Another thing worth mentioning. As i understand it (which could be very poorly) the way in which speech works is that if your stats are higher, it gives you a higher chance to win rather than it being ‘if your stat is higher you will win’. Also, have you tried using different methods of persuasion each time you talk to them? I think repeating the same ones reduces your chances of success.

Yep. I’ve also tried save scumming and trying it over and over again. Same result.

So what exactly is happening? Is it that you’re being busted 100% of the time when you’re committing a specific crime? Or are you just getting away with it less for some crimes more than others?

So I beat up the other executioner and his cronies during the Money for Old Rope quest. Completed the quest, went back into town, keep getting attacked by guards. I keep trying to tell them to fuck off, but they keep beating me in the speech checks.

The plot thickens, I’m on the PS4 also and haven’t seemed to run into this problem :confused: sorry my dude, I don’t know why this is happening

Update:

So I decided to wait around overnight, hoping I might run into a crappy guard by himself, thinking maybe strength in numbers was making them overconfident. I looked at my reputation status and saw my wanted status was in Skalitz all of a sudden. Strange. I talked to a gate guard in Rattay, he gave me some shit about wanting to search me. I told him to fuck off and he apologized. Another day goes by and the bounty in Skalitz is gone too.

I’m glad I don’t have to pay 3100 Groschen to pay off my brawling fine, but now I’m fairly positive this whole thing was a bug.
