[SPOILERS] The Prey - what happens if Henry chooses to abandon Hans?

Does anyone know if something interesting happens if Henry decides not to look for Hans when the Cumans capture him? Does he stay there forever or does he make it back on his own? Is Henry still rewarded with a horse? I know I could try for myself, but I don’t currently have enough time and wondered whether some of you might already know the answers.

great question. don’t know. every time i play i have to kill the Cuman because I’m not trailing behind and they attack me

Have not tried either . I would suppose it mucks up the game badly since he is a key character.
Mebbe even crash the game.
I could see where you are thrown in a jail for it and die there.

I was pleasantly surprised when I played it a second time and already owned a horse - that was a nice touch, but I wonder if it’s possible to fail it at all. My speculations: there could be an edge-of-the-map type boundary around the general area to search, Hans could be there forever, Hans could escape on his own and Henry doesn’t get a horse & his rep suffers, After waiting too long there could be a cutscene where the cumans find Henry as well and kill him (although that seems unlikely).

I know other main quests have time-sensitive elements - if you don’t ride to Neuhof with the others, they leave without you (+ penalty to rep?), if you don’t find Reeky soon enough, you find him wounded and dying - those are the ones I could think of from the top of my head.

Would expect it to sabotage the lover boy DLC

It wouldn’t break the game, but it could fail it (i.e. result in death). KCD is actually more fool-proof than is being given credit for. There are several solutions for every quest (you usually have to ignore objectives and follow your common sense instead - talk to other people, etc.)

Somebody needs to test this

Might be an action item this extended weekend

Busy or not, I got too curious, so I found the answer:

There was a little warning about 10 meters before this happened. My curiosity is satisfied. Maybe curiosity didn’t kill the cat this time, but it certainly killed Henry.

“Failing” this quest is a game over.
You have to rescue Sir Hans…

I was correct! mebbe not in jail but would spend a short time there going to the gallows.

That’s a cheap out. They should at least have a cutscene for this. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I don’t think WH have to supply cutscenes for people who are being pr*cks on purpose. It’s nice enough they made customized death screens for these eventualities.

It wouldn’t be a being a dick to the bird cutscene. WH could create a generic capital crime cutscene and use it for this and all other capital offenses. Personally, I think KCD leans too much on jail when death might be the more likely sentence for someone of Henry’s station

You have a twisted mind, but it’s not a bad idea. Although there aren’t many opportunities for Henry to be executed. Murdering whole towns only get you 10 days of jail…

Realism, huh!?

I have an imagination, twisted RPG behavior warrants twisted RPG cutscene :upside_down_face: … my take on Galatians 6:7 - Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

What is really fun is playing this quest on Hardcore.

Deep in the woods. Cant see the sky. no landmarks. Go find hans! Pick a direction. Sorry, wrong direction. You lose! reload and repeat 20 times til you get it right.

When lost, I search for creeks

I found him quite fast on hardcore because I looked for animals, found deer, the deer hunting spot appeared on the map, I found the sun through the trees and thus got my bearings.

But I understand that I’m probably above average at map reading IRL, plus I’ve already spent over 400h playing this game, so I should probably know every tree by now. I felt particularly proud of myself when I found Reeky on hardcore in the middle of the night after I’d gotten lost in the woods. I was able to deduce my location from the clacking sound coming from the contraption on the river nearby.

Since camping is a common hobby in Bohemia these days and Czech scouts are far more hardcore than their international counterparts, as a child I found myself lost in the middle of the woods at night on more than one occasion, so I’m kind of used to it…
