I have just took a look on the starry and I was very disappointed. I have realized that Samopesh is situated on the north pole! Really! The Polaris is situated right in the zenit (above the head). As well the starry sky isn’t rotating (well I haven’t check it, but according to previous timelaps I suppose it haven’t change. It is the best way how to resolve what time it is during night and would I miss this aspect in the final game. One would wash his hand if there is some another kind of game. Well this game plays for realism and plays it great, but with the sunset realism disappear and it’s a shame!
It have been one explained thet it is a matter of Cry Engine. However, one can’t believe that such a simple modification os not possible! Please keep an eye on it! Thanks!
No way. It’s situated on equater!
Proof: sun rises on east straight up at 6am. Continues to zenith, sets on west in 6pm.
It bothers me much more that the Moon is upside down.
If i remember correctly (i cannot find it right now on the forum) the sky box is hard (or impossible) to change in they cryengine.
I think it was some thechnical issue more than lack of will to change it.
Mabye @DrFusselpulli could enlighten us.
You are true and it was me who asked the question. But the explanation that something is impossible is not good enough. Everything is possible if one can.
Well i am not saying it is impossible entirely. I was jus trying to remember what i heard(read) some time ago.
That is why I tagged our Comunity manager because he could say more.
There is a very interesting article about the day/night cycle and the weather system.
WH programned all this new, because the cryengine counld´t do this before. They put a lot of manpower into this.
But it´s only german:
Maybe there is another (english) article about this topic.
(and I hope WH can improve the sky!!!)
Yes! All this also bothers me quite a bit. Especially the upside down moon, but also the 12-hour-long night. The game seems to be set around late spring / early summer (around solstice) and in Bohemia, there is only around 6 hours of darkness between dusk and dawn that time of year. In the Beta, this is especially irritating because skipping time is so slow.
Also, an engine as advanced as CryEngine surely has no problems whatsoever with rotating the skybox arbitrarily in order to display the stars where they should be.
I think that with all the emphasis on authenticity, it would be really nice to have astronomy right as well - at least show the stars correctly rotated, make the night shorter and have a phase of moon that makes sense in relation to the sun.
Do you guys remember old operation flashpoint?
In one campaing mission, you as a A-10 pilot got captured by soviets, and had to escape from captivity. When you finally did, you appeared in the middle of the night in wilderness with no tools, maps, compass, nothing, and you only knew that allies are on the south and had to determine which way to go from position of stars (which were 99% accurate) - it was fucking glorious. And that was 15 years ago, and Viktor Bocan worked on that too (I think).
So if it is within technical limits of cryengine, i am sure they will try to do it perfectly. If they can´t do it, it probably really isn´t technically possible in this engine.
That’s true! It was fantastic!
I created a new issue concerning this on the bug reporting site: http://support.kingdomcomerpg.com/issues/95
Actually in that mission, I’ve found some soldiers camping and stole their BVP and then just drive around until I suddenly, purely by chance, arrived to next save point… but yeah it was great :- )
Well I personally escaped by picking AK47, shooting one guard, sprinting to parked helicopter, stole it and shot everything in their base to pieces by rockets, it was absolutely glorious That mission had many different ways how to solve it, and all felt very natural and not forced, amazing game desing by any standard. So glad Vic is in this team aswell.
But I think that whatever way you escaped, it always forced you to that night mission with no equipment to navigate back to home
don’t let neil degrasse tyson hear about this.
also while we are on the subject, the stars need to be in the right place for that time of the year in 1403.
