Experienced this twice now. I store some items in the horse inventory and then the horse freezes when I mount it, along with my character. The first time I was unable to dismount or really do anything other than “run” in place, the second time I could dismount but my character was still frozen in place. The last time I was storing a lot of lepiotas and a bundle of them appeared graphically above my horse when I mounted. After a while the game then crashed. On 1.72.
I’ve had similar things happen in similar (but not identical contexts) and generally there are a few factors involved in my experience.
- The app has been running for a long time. The app doesn’t seem to have the best memory management so even though it may start out using only 2 or 3 GB of volatile memory after 5 or 7 hours it will be up into the 7 or 8 GB range.
- The player is engaging in a sequence of rapid inputs and the rendering is also being asked to chug along at a rapid clip: e.g., galloping past the alchemist in Rattay and then vaulting into the alchemy room and running at the bench while the apothecary is saying “Henry! Glad to see you!” and game freezes and becomes unresponsive when I interact with the bench.
One final possbility (which I have not exerienced but it may explain your specific issue): lots of items being transferred between inventories. Lepiotas are possibly one of the worst offenders because they are handled as individual items. So you could conceivably have a stack of 500 lepiotas each of which is requiring its own data structure to account for its state.
That certainly seems consistent with the way the game has been running for me.
I’ve finally gotten to the point where I can just brew Savior Schnapps/have enough money to basically always buy a full stock so it’s less of an issue - I just save before/after I do anything now. But in any game that heavily restricts saving, having pristine stability should be a #1 issue. The premise (be smart about when you save and what you do compared to the saves you have) doesn’t work otherwise, as you get punished with a 1,5+ hour plus time wasted for doing what you’re supposed to do.
Yep. I’ve only got burned 3 or 4, maybe at most half dozen times in the ~350 hours i’ve played. So I cannot complain to heartily. But I agree with the principle.
