Keep in mind that funding won’t be over after the kickstarter campagin. Star Citizen raised some 2 million on Kickstarter and 38(!) million on their website afterwards. This is a ridiculous amount, and KC: D doesn’t need that much to become a great game, but more money makes it possible to hire more staff, so even when they add additional goals they should be able to keep their schedule.
First: @Anawer is completly right. We will reach this goal anyway through the Paypal-Backers.
Seconde: People who dont play with english voice wont profit from voice over of expensive actors!
But most important: Before giving money to rich hollywood actors …
I would prefer to increase the wages of the developes with a stretch goal, because they are doing really great work (!!!) and they had a really hard time before all turned good with kickstarter.
Happy developers make better games.
Yes, I too believe no game is complete when there isn’t Patrick Stewart in it. Engage!
@CTHULHUWHO1: i’m so agree with you ! You have to found the perfect actor not necessary a well-known Star !

[/quote] This is very true, but putting the final goal on Kickstarter as “Hire more staff” may not have appealed to anymore people than this goal did. Keep in mind that the goals they put up have to be achievable too, and they have no idea how much funding they will receive after the campaign is finished and consequently whether they will be able to hire more staff or not.
i would like, for the 1.2 M stretch goal, the game having co-op
I agree, that would be the most reasonable thing to do. Also they can always add new features to Act II and III.
I would like for people to stop wishing things that devs already told us they will not put in ACT I
Every stretchgoal that is achieved also helps the developers to make the game a tiny bit better. The Bonus they promise us for achieving the stretchgoal is what the developers think might interest us the most and is not drawing away too many ressources.
I have to say I’d love to have Brian the Blessed in the game. I think he would fit in perfectly.
Sounds great, but I’m not sure if we’ll make it
100% we will. Pledging will not end with end of KS campaign.
Well, we will probably not achieve this goal within the kickstarter campaign and I’m not sure whether they plan to continue doing the campaign in the kickstarter way with stretch goals and etc after KS end. I think they mentioned that it will rather be some kind of shop with pre-orders. But I would be glad if they let this last stretch goal to be reached at least after the end of KS campaign. But then I don’t need any more stretch goals. The game will be robust and complex anyway.
One another thing. They can’t hire just good voice actors, they will have to hire good actors in general, for the technique which they will use for mocap is performance motion capture. This technique is unique because it captures not only the motion of the body, but facial motion and voice as well. So it is the most natural way how to capture the acting. But it also means that they can’t easily let some Czech actors play the roles and then dub them by english voice actors. It means that they will have to hire talented British actors who can play the whole role, not only the voice of it. That would applies for “star guest” as well. He will not just do some voice-over but he in fact will play his role. That’s why this stretch goal makes more sense.
I am not sure, but I could imagine, that there are enough talented czech actors who can speak english. But I personaly would prefere, if they would make the game in czech/german period language (or at least modern czech) and make dubbig for other languages later…
I will kindly say: no, thank you.
Here’s what I think: good motion capture and performance by professional actors is a must in a game that wants to deliver a realistic experience. But for the same reason (realism) I would not hire an overly exposed face as Sean Bean’s, well known for his LOTR and GoT roles.
I would hire professional actors instead, good and talented but unrecongnizable actors and I will use the money to get a lot of them, in order to reduce the lookalike risk.
That being said, if Warhorse sees in Sean Bean a marketing boost to use for the sake of the game, then go for it.
I don’t think thats a good idea nor do i think thats going to happen. Most of the potential buyers as well as most of the backers are native english speakers or speak english fluently. Only a few would understand a game in czech. This would kill the game and further development. And for what purpose? More realism? There are some compromises to be made and that is one of them. In the end they still want to sell this game and I think we all want them to. Because only a successful first Act will ensure more Acts and more games in this setting. And by cutting out 95% of the gamers they are not going to achieve that.
Werner Herzog, oh yes!
You are completly right. But I was not talking about making no english voice for the game. My point was:
Make a czech game, translate it and make a english dubbing. (and not the other direction)
So all people who want english voice will get it.
Why doing it first in czech?
- It is easyer for the developer to bring on paper what they have in mind in their first language. English translation can be made later by a professional translator.
- Even if you play with another language, it will feel more like a czech game.
- do it first in czech prevents you fom having english idioms in the story
…
Edit: PS: Im not from Czech Rep. and I cant speak a word czech…
I would support that. Maybe he would make it without payment if warhorse let him make a documentation about the development of the game…
I really like the idea of hiring famous actors/actresses for voice overs and facial animations, but I am not sure we`ll reach that stretch goal in time. Personally I would prefer Sean Bean or Carice van Houten. It would be kinda funny if Sean Bean died in this game as well though, or seeing Carice as a witch/herbalist/noble of some sort.
Speaking English and performing in English are two different things. Yes, we have many very talented actors and yes, they could probably speak English, but mostly with horrible Czech accent. Someone could say that it could work with Czech accent but this is too risky. The thing is that majority of people will play this game in English because English is the language which they understand. And I bet there are not so many connoisseur who would prefer Czech dubbing before English one. Even though this is inde project, it is still expensive AAA game. Via kickstarter they probably sold around 30% already but they’ll have to sell at least another 70%. Don’t worry, there will be Czech dubbing, but not Czech performance.
So not famous actors/actresses are unreal?
