Striking it rich as an unknown murderer/thief

Greetings to all who read this… today I am discussing morality, honor, thievery, monetary gain, and how those for it and against it interact with each other over the forum.

When I first get this game, I plan on being someone who excels in artisan work, speech craft, and the use of a dagger. To the outside world, my clothes are always clean, I’m a human of intelligence, skill, and diplomacy. I promote peace and a disdain for any violence. I will talk my way through almost everything, I will get close to the nobility, and I will make friends with almost everyone I can.

As someone who doesn’t plan on being the sword and board style of play, I will excel in charisma, agility, and stamina so that if I need to get away, I can either talk my way out of it, or turn into a track star, and sprint my way home. (Yes I know my home was burned down and everyone I used to know is dead. It was a figure of speech.)

Since I don’t plan on being a merchant, or being a mercenary, let alone anything else that involves standing shoulder to shoulder with other warriors, I will have to find different ways to be well off since that is what I want for myself, and it will be done through helping those with my voice… and when I discover something of value in a place that’s guarded, or next to a noble when they’re asleep, I will come up with a way to sneak my way in so that I may make off with the loot.

As a rogue like player, in the event that I am to be accused of a crime, my charisma will be high, and I when finished with the crime… will abandon my weapon that I used to assassinate whomever I needed to. I will also abandon my clothes, then pit on a fresh pair, and the importance of that is… I wont have blood spatter let alone dirt which will lower my chances of being thought of as the murderer or crook. In the bible exists a saying… cleanliness is godliness. Considering most humans at this time are religious, being next to godliness if not the pure incarnate of it is a great boon to the way people view you. Moreover, no weapon means… I couldn’t have done it, I don’t have a weapon, and I will use my charisma to talk the rest of my way out of an execution if they say that I could have ditched the weapon.

The problem I face is this… after leaving the scene of the crime, if I am unable to avoid being incriminated, and the only penalty available to me is death… I have zero self defense other than running and I may not have the fortune of out running my captors. This will be possibly the end of that save if I don’t save accordingly. Which is PERFECT. I don’t want to have the option available to me to turn into Bruce Lee and disarm an attacker then use their weapon against them. But if I can, I will. Or I won’t. The choice is mine and the consequences are too.

Now… moving past that… this is a role playing game. When you role play, you are a completely different person, who you are in the game is your decision, and yours alone. If stealing is immoral to your character and you think it’s only punishable by death… never steal, kill every thief, and live by your own code. If you think looting dead bodies is for those of low character, kill them, or don’t, it’s your call.

This is a classless game, which means the only thing you are leveling up are your stats. If you want to be an expert archer who never uses a bow in combat but prefers to be in the throng of battle with a weapon you have no skill with… that’s your choice and why the people on here are being so forgetful of what it means to role play only tells me that the majority of the community is oafish.

Give your character personality. Even if your name in game is fixed and you don’t get to choose what you look like… just because your father was a blacksmith, doesn’t mean you have to be, you can reject your family business, and go off to be a ballerina who smokes opium.

If you want to live the life of a mercenary and you think gold/silver should be earned through hardwork, then you pick up a weapon and you earn your keep through the blood of your opponents.

If you think your wages should be earned through gambling and nothing else, chances are high that you’ll have high charisma, and will be at a tabletop game where money is at stake. If the guy you’re playing against takes all your money, follow him home, follow him around town, see where that money goes, and if you want to… kill him and steal it.

The choice is yours. When you play role playing games, the only consequences you face in life, are the ones in the game. If you kill someone in game, you’re not going to get life in prison. You are a whole new human. Live the way you want to. Moreover, you can create more than one save file. If you don’t want to be a thief anymore, switch over to your warrior, and vice versa for every other persona you make.

I hope this opens people’s eyes up to a larger possibility of how you can play this game and how you can put in more words to get your point across over the forums.

I look forward to reading your replies and hoping that this topic takes off so that the developers put in some more time into this wonderful looking game. Even if this game comes out a year after they originally had it planned to… I don’t care. Nothing amazing like this was built in a day.
