Suggestion on the slow-mo effect

Hi. I haven’t found a thread discussing the slow-mo effect when countering blows in the live stream video and so I decided to started this thread.

I was thinking that, instead of using that slow-mo sound effect (in the live stream) and becomes very annoying after a few times, using blur/Depth of Field screen effect to blur the surroundings while only the opponent’s head and upper torso remains sharp when slow-mo gets activated. This is done to simulate intense focus of the player without additional sound effects.

More suggestions will be good too.

I would rather have either. The alpha sound and slow effect and your suggestion. I mean, they can implement for those who want, but let the player decide if they will activate or not .

Perhaps muting or muffling sounds from the surroundings rather than adding an artificial sound effect. Ramping the sound off and then back on again would prevent it from attracting your attention.

It’s jut pre-alpha,in beta/final relase of game,it will be much much betther, imagine two ppl attack you in same time, and slow-mo will be nice addon.

I don’t know, it’s depending on how it’s implemented because I’m sure, if it’s über blurry, for example, my eyes will hurt viciously. I’m sitting right in front of an 30"screen when playing and therefore I’m not very fond of blur and such. You know, I’m focusing on something and then suddenly for whatever reason the perspective changes and I have this blurry image right in front of my eyes. Not funny! Most of the time it’s the first thing I turn off. Depth of field is okay, feels more natural when objects in the distance aren’t crystal clear. But this shouldn’t be overdone as well. As for the sound effect, I think, it was too much. It needs to be more subtle. Maybe something closer to the sounds ensuing from the fight itself.

I didn’t like the slowmo effect at all. I would not want sth like that implemented but ive not seen this in the newer template i think.

It can be kind of help on lower diffuculty of combat.

the max payne sound effect was definitely weird. i’m turning that off.

I agree, having a blur effect would be much better.

I agree with @Dekssan, make it part of a lower difficulty level but when the difficulty is raised you have to perform all combat actions in real-time.

If a motion blur was implemented, I would rather it was a toggle option. It doesn’t affect me on a standard monitor, but blurring whilst Rifting is a sure fire way induce simulator sickness. Even if the game doesn’t have a Rift option, there’s the potential that third-part drivers may allow it.

No slow-motion or at least an option to turn it off, please.

A couple of good suggestions and good point on over done effects causing eye strains. Perhaps vignetting (dark corners) can works better than blur.

Letting players choose the effects or just turn it off sounds great.

i want that too, an option to shut down slow motion i feel it’s going to be more realistic that way and challenging.

Long Black from what i have heard others say its meant to simulate reaction time, so the better combatant you are the more time you have and the better your enemy is the less time you have

Basicly its not slow mo but its a simulation of reaction time

Yep, I understand the intention of slowing the time. Technically the effect is slow motion  It’s the sound effect that really bugs me after a dozen times.
