Switching engine

other than being wasteful with the license acquired and time spent already working with the cryengine, is there any other reasons switching to UE4 won’t be better in the long run?

thanks for entertaining!

According to wikipedia, they are currently using CryEngine4. How does that compare to UE4?

With the amount of time until expected release, switching engines now would be marginally short of catastrophic. The game looks beautiful as it is, and I would rather them spend the remaining time on fleshing it out, and making a fantastic, well-rounded game.
Look at Duke Nukems dev history, they changed engines like 4-5 times. There will always be a new and improved engine coming out, and if every game jumped on it halfway through development, they’d never end up being released.

Seems very wasteful with license and cry-engine is quite good. Also UE4 is not actually free, you still pay royalties on your project.

Do we know if they’re going to switch to 64bit?

I think it was one of their first blog articles where they wrote about a time of choosing engine. They were evaluating all engines at the time for about 2 months and decided for cry engine, partly because their lead graphic had experience with it from crysis3 and It was just the best choice at a time… A lot changed since so who knows what would they choose today

no, you pretty much nailed it. no other reason is necessary because switching now would be suicide.

the ue4 isn’t that good. before the free announcement came, no one even cared about it.

Unreal 4 looks good dont get me wrong but i still think cryengine looks better.

Never change a winning team… (so far!) Just because it’s “free” it doesn’t mean that it fits to our needs! UE4 is a beautiful and good Engine but was made for other game types or genres. So was the Cryengine but it’s, with the awesome cooperation we have with Crytek, very flexible and adjustable! Therefore… no change (so far)

And these forests… do you really want to change that engine?!
