Since developers stated that historical accuracy is one of their main goals, I would like to point a thing or two I noticed during watching the life stream.
The character is given sword to use during the first quest. Now, the reason for that might be that sword was the only weapon with finished animations at that time. At that time sword was seen as sign of knight. Price of a sword was generally higher than price of a house and only very good and specialized blacksmiths were making them. This would of course explain one of the reasons driving the protagonist to go after the bandits, to take back the sword they stole.
I just cannot imagine the lord giving Henry sword just like that. Untrained, lowly peasant would be hardly given such honor, even if this sword is portrayed as old and of mediocre quality.
It is possible that developers intend to have swords as main weapon for most soldiers, which would be understandable since they give probably the most options for visually appealing fights, but it is not completely lore friendly if we want to stick to history in hardcore way.
If weapon like that is wanted by team, maybe he could get some old sabre? There were some battles against Ottoman empire that Holy Roman Empire was part of during that period, so bringing back their weapons would be possible and sabre, as a weapon of heathens, would be more thinkable as something for peasant, if giving him mace or axe would be problem for some reason. Another option is long hunting knife, sometimes called hunting sword, which does not sport shape of cross and would not be a knightly weapon while still being quite lethal.
Maybe Henry can get real sword as a reward of great value for bringing back the lordâs new sword? Getting the lordâs old one⌠as kind of huge recognition. Since I am sure that carrying a sword in medieval world would pretty much change the way most people would treat someone.
Another thing that caught my eye was the heavy plate armor of the soldier that leads the party that goes to stables. Price of full plate armor during that period would be somewhere comparable to several villages (including all the layers beneath it, like hauberk). And it would be very slow and tiresome to wear while walking around, since it was used almost exclusively by people fighting from saddle of horse. Such armor even required special lift to get the knight on top of horse.
I think that having simple hauberk would be a bit more reasonable in this situation, the breastplate seems to be an overkill⌠and think about the poor soldier and the world of pain he is in in the evening after the quick walking around the stables with all the steel on him.
Of course those things are just details and I understand that some compromises must be made for the sake of gameplay. So just voicing some tiny little issues of history freaks.
