I started a new game yesterday, (because the endless monastery announcements drove me crazy), and the sword trainer guy at the very beginning of the game wouldn’t talk to me.
I ended up deleting my save file and starting over, and he talked just fine.
Just a heads up.
you can get rid of the announcements apparently if you go back into the monastery and get busted for evading duties and get kicked out. Apparently if you’re lock pick skill is not high enough to break back in you can climb some ladders and jump the walls to get in; have not done it myself, cannot confirm.
