Tactics in KC:D

I’m just wondering if (or what) kind of tactics we’ll be seeing in game. The period the game is set is of course the time of the reemergance of infantry as an important factor on the battlefield. This is of course the time of the Hundred Years war and other tactics such as the Swiss Pikemen and the Hussites are just around the corner. Will this be reflected in game?

OT: I can’t seem to be able to select any other kinds of category sorry…

I’d love to see more on combat in general (which I think is coming in an KS update soon), but I’m also very interested about tactics and strategy. I know it is an RPG so I suspect we won’t have any tactical or strategic impact on sieges, but there was mention of some kind minion/companion system and that could allow for some lite-strategy for sieges. Anyways, would love to hear about it as well.

The KS video does mention combat on horseback so hopefully some big cavalry charges will be there and playable.

Would love to see how they do cavalry combat, most games that try to put it in end up failing.

They mentioned Mount and Blade: Warband and I know that one designer (Jan) was playing this game a lot just like I currently do (again). It has the best mounted combat so far and I think KC: D will include that kind of combat but not with this massive amount of combatants which you see in MB:WB. The big battles shall be a unique experience and as far as I know only one or two occasions will appear to take part in huge battles.

The only strategy I can think of is finding weaknesses in the enemy’s armor and trying to slice or pierce through that certain armor part.

I think a lot of speculation will be just that…speculation. That is until they announce more to combat. If it’s at least as complicated as M&B, it will be a complicated twitch/blockfest. That said anything they can do to incorporate HEMA will be phenomenal. I’d rather a button smasher that includes WMA than some type of crazy kinetic based system that does not represent WMA…

Combat-wise, I think this game will hold more to the fighting style in the game Chivalry (if any of you have played it or watched it). I think that game is pretty realistic when it comes down to the one-on-one fighting.

Now looking at it from a infantry and military tactic stand-point. It would probably come down to something like strategy with the number of infantry and siege weapons that a player may have compared to their opposition. A few well-placed trebuchet could change an entire battle. But if you are looking at it from more of a first-person view, then it will probably more of something like in the promo vid with men climbing the walls by ladders during a siege.

chivalry and mount and blade are far from realistic, they use a silly direction based hack and slashing. not representative of medieval combat at all.

that said, it’s not so easy for horseback. i think with horseback, they will have to follow mount and blade’s cue. its lance couching is one thing that is very well done.

If they enhance the tactics system of Mount and Blade, making it more effective and quick to use, I predict a great success. Its mounted combat was awesome as well, satisfying, quick to learn but difficult to master. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi, I am not really educated in history, but every czech child has heard about Hussite tactics with mud and wagons. Which leads me to topic: How will the fighting affect environment. And will we be able to use environmet to our adventage?

I must say that fighting large battle on green grass field that is always the same no matter how many horses ride over it or how many feet will step on it is quite disturbing.
