Taking the negative traits in Normal Mode?

Ive been messing around in Hardcore and while it can be enjoyable, its not for me honestly. Mostly its the map thing, which can be super annoying in some parts of the game. One thing I really liked however were the negative perks. Is there anyway to activate these on normal mode?

that’s really the only reason I’m hesitating on HC mode, I’m terrible at figuring out which way I’m going in a game
especially after a good fight. I really don’t understand why, even if it’s not period accurate, we couldn’t get a compass
or get it on toggle.

I think compass should be on toggle and I like your idea of negative traits in normal mode.

the map thing isnt that bad once you get use to it. it actually showed me how much i rely on the map just to go from town to town. i pretty much only fast travel in normal mode and do very little riding for my self. so this was my biggest thing to get over as well. but once you stop relying on seeing yourself on the map its pretty easy. relics, shrines and interesting sites will help u a pin point your location. the roads are pretty easy to follow. for me its when im on a road and i have to turn here and turn there to get to where i need to be. im always blowing right by the turns and i have to do like 2 mins of back tracking lol. BTW just in case u didnt know u can look at the map all you want you just cant see your self.

yea, you just have to know which way you’re facing
aside from the sun is there a good tell? Someone said something about if you keep your Theresa mission open you’ll always know where South is
is that mission always displayed? I though markers were removed until you got close? That would be a huge help honestly.

I’m thinking to when you do things like capturing those birds for the Rattay Huntsman and stuff like that
can you set markers and if you’re close to them see them? Cuz really getting out of the woods once I’m there is probably what I’m most worried about. I like to hunt and take out bandit camps.

yea that is seriously half the battle lol land marks help but you have to be near one. when im in the woods i find my self saying all the time “where the fuck am i” but i noticed theres tons more interesting sites in the woods now to show u where u are . seems like more then non hard core, but not sure on that though it could just be me.

so if I’m lost but there is a road nearby can I place a marker for myself and if I’m close enough it will then show up on my “compass” bar or does that not work? Cuz that wouldnt be too bad. Really, I’m worried about chasing deer or fighting bandits in the woods and getting all turned around focusing on my task not which way I’m facing lol.

Nope, that would sure make things simple. but ur not allowed to do that. like pretty much nothing shows up on the hud. im pretty sure the main quest dose sometimes.

I mean sure I get it, like i said I played through it but the fact that i got used to it didnt change how annoying it was overall, Id rather not play on HC aymore but I would miss certain things. Honestly they need to add custom markers at least that work the same as the quest markers do, as in you dont see until youre close

Also I had so few random encounters due to the paths I took to get around, which I thought was a shame. I liked the random things that you found in fast travel

In RL, follow the sun and use landmarks. creeks/rivers are huge.

a couple days ago (early in my hardcore playthrough), i traveled the wooded path between Uzhitz and Talmberg at hight. in my haste, i went too fast and got stuck in a Cuman tree barricade. bastards. i was overloaded so fighting wan’t going to go well. i darted off and left the Cuman but because it was dark and i went off path, i got lost. i found a path and followed it but it didnt go well. i wasnt getting closer to Talmberg so i knew if was getting even more lost.

the wooded areas in KCD are limited in size and in specific locations. i couldn’t find a creek so i just tried to get out of the woods. the only thing that coiuld’ve gone worse would’ve been if a mounted enemy or a hungry bear/wolf pack tried to hunt me.

i finally got out of the woods. being night, the only things i had were the map , the silhouette of trees, and my familiarity with the landscape. the woodcutter camps out in the open told me i was N of both Talmberg and Uzhitz. to be candid, i ran out of map. that told me north
and therefore the rest of the directions

went south, looked at the map and noticed the pond and waterway near Uzhitz. with that realized the topography around Uzhitz on a hill with gully around it. after a while, saw and recognized a silhouette with geometric lines
Godwin’s workplace. Jesus Christ be praised.

Now that sounds like an adventure

the only thing that could’ve made it more immersive would have been for the Uzhitz alehouse maid to say ‘you look beat hal. have some of this’ and then offer up the Czech equivalent of a hot toddy

I can tell you’re not meant for a challenge.

Lol, okay kid.

It said something about quest markers only showing when you’re “close”, whatever that is defined as, so I didn’t know if custom markers worked the same way. Either way, just started HC earlier. Running the Skalitz exploit best I can, sucks you have to use schnapps cuz no autosaves with dad missions but it’s doable. Doing that with Claustrophobia and Tapeworm. Probably gonna go mace and shield cuz it was OP in vanilla and if this is as hard as it’s supposed to be it should be a good set up. I want to get to Pribyslavitz by July 5th for the DLC.

save atleast one when u start the quest run. if one of those cumans kill u , youll be at you last save. thats what happened to me i lost a good 3 hours of progress.

check the shops, i robbed everything and i think theres more schnapps in the shops. but i might be wrong.

I like to get dirty. When guards fight against bandits, I dismount and join the melee fight. In 1-1 fights, the mace (and axe) is deadly.

In hardcore, I find that distance matters more and that makes it more difficult to battle with short weapons. In group free for all battles, you often don’t have enough reach to hit the guy in front. You can push forward but that can leave your flanks exposed. Hitting O to escape the lock and moving the joystick hard to turn to your flank doesn’t work well. And, block doesn’t work as well as it should. So, be prepared to take some shots.

Short sword (stinger) gives some stab distance and damage but without opening up Henry as much. And when you use the agility perk you can chain stabs with lethal effect.

Longswords give more reach for attacks and spacing for defense (reduce getting boxed in), but I find I don’t like the cheaper ones.

You can activate/deactivate any perk using cheats:

For example you can activate “Brittle bones” perk this way:
I. Open console up by pressing ~ (tilde)
2. Type: cheat_add_perk id:fbedb426-410c-4614-952a-1086b6f6554f
3. Hit ENTER and enjoy hacking the game.

You can obtain perk ID from perk.xml located in \Data\Tables.pak\Libs\Tables\rpg\perk.xml

Also, shortsword is more reliable in terms of successfull landing your hits because chance to block SW’s strike lower than Longsword’s. Even if your SW strike was blocked you have a bit more chance to recover and set a counterblock.

In other hand as you said the distance matters because 1-2 hits can kill Henry. Longsword + Master Strike = OP. You can beat anyone staying unhurted.

You know I had tried that just casually by searching for the actual name of the sleepwalking one and finding nothing Lol. thanks!
