Talk your way out of a fight, taunting and bullying in the middle of fight?

it will be great if we can talk our way out of a fight in this game, I think it’s a must in this kind of realism oriented RPG, so not every fight must end in deaths, even I dare say most fight should have an option to allow the fight to end without deaths unless it’s a full blown battle in a war or you simply chose to roleplay as psychopath… remember we won’t battle against mindless monsters in this game.

and the ability to taunt, bully or even reason in the middle of fight will allow a deeper and realistic roleplaying, I don’t pretend to know how it really was in the middle ages, but I saw many examples from movies, the kind of arrogant knight or fighter who can’t keep their mouth shut while fighting… also that one of the game feature is to roleplay as a bard and that the game allow for mixed ‘class’; I personally want to roleplay as a bard-knight sort of guy.

this kind of stuffs should be very interesting to implement to this game… although I don’t pretend to know whether or not it can even be implemented… if not well maybe in the next chapter of the game? or even next title?

I think that would be great as long as we had the option to reduce the frequency of taunts coming from NPC’s. I would love to see a NPC running away because my character said something particularly disturbing. (something about Fava beans and wine)

Totally not being serious here, but I’d laugh if the insults were pulled from the Random Shakespeare Insult Generator or whatever it’s called.

Thou fobbing pottle-deep haggard! (slash)
Thou frothy toad-spotted mammet! (block)
Thou ruttish boil-brained ratsbane! (stab)
Thou yeasty idle-headed joithead! (kill)

yay, no one else interested in the idea? although I admit it seem to be a rather near impossible to implement in a way that make sense and immersive…

I would do it so that you would have a few shortcut buttons while fighting, like for example just 1,2,3 etc.
And every button would be a short sentence you say. Like 1=beg for mercy // 2=insult // 3=argue…
I hope you understand what I want to do
Then you could give every NPC you fight a little personality that makes him react differently, whether you insult him or argue. That would be possible to do I guess.

Would it be cool? Yes. Can it be done? Maybe on PC but I don’t know about console.

The taunts you can say in Chivalry are golden! I’d love to be able to taunt in this game as well. But I wouldn’t want to bring up a speech command menu, you know, you press a button and get a list of things to say. I’d rather if you press the hotkey and your character says something immediately. I don’t know if the buttons Z, X and C is going to be used for anything, but they could be used for things to say during combat.

Z could be to try and talk your way out of combat, something like “You don’t have to do this! It’s not worth it!”… if you’re bad at negotiations. X could be to taunt your foe to perhaps make him attack you and do a mistake, like “You take that back, you knave!” and lunge at you. For C, I’m thinking the same as Chivalry - a battle cry. I also wouldn’t mind a button to bash your shield either, but unlike Chivalry, I would not want to be locked in an animation! If you’re gonna battle cry, just leave your upper body doing the animation while you still have control over your legs, and you should be able to cancel that animation quickly if you do it by mistake and an enemy comes at you.

It seems that there would be some degree of this since it is realistic to assume that not every action has to automatically lead to a fight and it has been said that our choices will define how others react or relate to us. I would imagine it will also depend on how you’re playing the game. A bard might joke his way out of a fight, a thief may use charm or wit and a fighter may use intimidation. Regardless, any of those would still be realistic.

Speaking of begging for mercy, I think some enemies should yield when they are wounded or losing, and you could choose to leave them be, rob them, or kill them anyways.

I like this Idea, if someone doesn’t think they can win let self preservation take hold. This could be extended to the player as well, in addition to reasoning with or taunting your opponent why not surrender and apologize.

As @Paladin mentioned this might be difficult to implement on console due to the lack of buttons available, but I certainly think it’s a good idea as long as the gameplay isn’t dependent on it in any way.

well I think the d-pad can be used although that will be only max 4 type of ‘conversation’ possible

@InvisibleShadow @napoleonic I myself am a pc gamer but I know that consoles are using a lot of voice commands in games now (more on the xbox side of things), and the PS4 controller has a touch pad on the front, some games have used this as a sort of feature pad whereby dragging your finger in a certain direction would have different effects, namely in Killzone:Shadowfall the touchpad was used to set your robotic companion to different modes (Attack, Defence, Stun, Zipwire). I didn’t hear that this game would be coming to console, I sort of hope it doesn’t as that can only serve to lower the complexity of the game. Sorry console folk, I’m not going all pc master race I just don’t want the game having reserved systems because of the console tech.

The show I have in mind is not medieval but Ancient Rome. Its a British television series called Rome, it’s available on Netflix. If you like the tudors/borgias etc etc then you’ll like this, grit/drama/action. It follows the story of Rome during the end of Gaius Julius Caesars conquest of Gaul to his death at the hands of the senate and to the final battle of Mark Anthony and Brutus. It follows the story from the view of both men of the legion, men of equestrian standing and the most powerful romans of the period. In my opinion very worth while a watch. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0384766/

what does it have anything to do with the thread?

I support this thread as it would enhance the RPG element to an excellent extent and add more realism.

The Elder Scrolls games up from Oblivion offered a way out of a fight, if the target liked you enough. In obliviou, if you were blocking a chatted the person up, he could stop fighting. I think that works for hiding your weapons in Skyrim or some such. If that’s possible, I could see a possibility of implementing some form of ‘fear factor’, where if your opponent is sufficiently afraid of you, he can be persuaded to end a fight prematurely. I have not seen it implemented it anywhere tho, and I could see it being abused to hell and back (and then everybody complaining that they were forced into abusing it)

You should be able to start a massive bar fight down at the pub that would be awesome I think on top of this toppic even have a group of your fellow buddys follow you into the pub crawl and fights.

In TES 4-5 if you blocked and used the activation key (The one to talk to characters), they would stop attacking you if they liked you enough. In KC this could be used kind of like the same but with a lot more variables instead of just a “like meter”. Like how reasonable they are to listen to you, the guy they fought in the forest during the livestream would be a perfect example. You block and press activate and depending on why he’s figthing you, your persuasion and how it goes for him during the fight he might stop. Perhaps he was just fighting you because he thought you we’re a bandit, if you persuade him you’re not he would probaby stop pretty easily. If he IS a bandit it will probably be a lot harder.
