Not saying anyone needs an SSD.
Game files can easily become fragmented, patches are large. Fragmentation leads to massive issues in streamimg texture games.
Even an SSD in consoles makes games like GTA5 load in higher res assets quicker⊠open world games are a rare breed and do often push performance envelopes.
4TB drives can be great for media (large storage zone), but generally choosing size when cost is a factor means that aint no western digital black, hmm?
5400 rpm drives wont load anywhere near the speed of 7200rpm drives, hybrid drives (generally with higher density platters and an SSD cache), cheap SSDs, expensive large SSDs, then actual high performamce SSDs. ⊠which many people have never experienced. (Once an SSD user- always an SSD userâŠ)
My comment was to do with game data beimg split across drives.
All sorts of issues then can be exacerbated.
If a few shaders etc required files live on a different drive to where the bulk of the game is- this can add delays of its own⊠eg the spin up time on a drive inused for awhile (admittedly unlikley if user files are in default location on C:)
What might prove beneficial is deleting the game and fully redownloading the present version. It will likely remove some fragmentation and aid the game to work optimally.
I watched the load time for the game running 1.5 on a mates high end PC today. I couldnt believe the load time (vs my experience), and in game the time for whole patches of the graphics to load was huge. It was an amazing experience watching the rips on henrys clothing load in âone by oneâ, and textureless walls magically become 3D⊠it was confirmed that once loaded it was fine- myself ; Ive only seen aboit three objects pop up in front of me in months of having the game.
I truly believe a large part of my flawless success with the game is my high speed ssd (which only a handful of games net massive benefits from), and the fact that I download full game (after updates)/or transfer the files from a laptop (downloaded at local cafe) to my desktop /gaming rig.
This basically enforces no fragmentation/files all in right order and much easier/faster to read.
You dont need an ssd.
Many games offer little benefit or, like faster ram, moght only lower an initial load time an prove of no benefit whilst playing.
Then a rare beast like KCD comes along and nets true benefit from a system with no weak links.
For the record: storage is one of the least evolved areas of pcs (in terms of the rate of performance increase over the decades).
SSDs really helped remove some bottlenecks that PCs were fast approaching.
Anyhow 1.5 might just have further fragmented your install and now the loads are being hampered and the result is visual.
