I Don’t care about this but i will try to get a another look into this:
It will break immersion. Why?
Its just fact (proven by experience of game industry) that 1st person camera will provide better immersion for lot of people. And yes lot of people dont care about this and want 3rd camera.
When you are game developer its similar to movie you are preparing some experience for people, and you have your ideas how you want for them to experience it. With games you have little bit of blank space for it. Based on gender and opinion of developers they are giving more or less freedom.
These people are developing a game, story and experience with some idea what they want for a player to feel and experience. If you will make a 3rd camera possible lot of people will switch and it will change their experience, in a way they can’t control, in a way it could be in a conflict with rest of game and their idea about game as whole.
Maybe with it your personal experience would be better, maybe it would be better for many people have this possibility who knows. But what we know is that they made a decision that they want to represent game in some specific way. At the end its more or less an Art.
