The coat of arms you use

I noticed that alot of you, forum members (including me), use Coat of arms as avatar picture, this topic is about to learn more about the city/family/towns involved, explainig the different syboles, representations and parts that are compsing these blazon of yours.

so le’ts start:

mine is the coat of arms from Concarneau. small town of brittany. almost all of the coat of arms of brittany uses the symbol of ermine (the black fout parts pattern aft the three red axes) one of the caracteristic symbole of the breton people with the Triskell:

the three red axes are linked to the “Ville-close” a Vauban style fortificated garrison town build in the 15th century.

House Gilmore have ties in Ireland, Scotland, and northern England. Each House of Gilmore has different coat of arms, i identify myself with the Scottish Gilmore (also the most popular and origin of the Gilmores). House Gilmore is from Strathclyde where they ruled Ayrshire since very ancient times. the word Gilmore means “devotee of the virgin Mary”, it comes from the Gaelic word Gille Moire which means “follower of Mary”.

House Gilmore is a sept from Clan Morrison, Septs are clans founded by a member of another clan who became so powerful he starts his own.

This is Clan Morrison’s Badge. I unfortunately do not have any understanding of the meaning behind the Gilmore coat of arms or the Morrison badge. If anyone knows more about these images please reply. Thank you.

If I get the chance I’d like to use the coat of arms from my mum’s side of the family. It’s simple but I reckon it would work well on a shield or pennon
