The combat has some serious f***ing problems

So I just made it to the baptism of fire mission and I’ve been stuck trying to beat runt for a few hours now. I’ve tried everything, parrying, shield and sword, mace, bow… nothing works. When I looked up how to beat him and all the advice I found was “cheese him with a bow” seriously? Why the f*ck would you make this boss so hard that the only way to even stand a chance is by clumsily running in circles trying to shoot the guy point blank? It’s pathetic, and frankly, terrible game design, and it needs to be changed.

Its not pathetic. Yes there there are definetly bugs that need fixing but the combat is a learning curve. Ive been chatting on a post to guy whos been fighting 10+ bandits/culmans and winning against them all. Even has screenshot to prove this with all the bodys on the floor next to each other xD

Yeah, not really. Combat against skilled, armored warriors is dangerous and unforgiving. As it should be. It’s up to you to be even more skilled than they are.

I went from not being able to take on a single combatant in any circumstance to being able to fight 3-5 at once, riposting and executing combos all the while.

Basically, respectfully, git gud.

People want to go from being a nobody with 0 experience to being able to kill anything from the second hour of the game. This doesn’t work like that. Practice is key. I still struggle to take to take on more than 2 but you know what a game like this should be like that. It makes me assess my situations more carefully. I love it.

Nothing wrong with the combat system, you have to think about your approach, it’s alot different fighting an armoured skilled fighter compared to a highway bandit only in light passed armour.

I trained alot in sword fighting and went from struggling in 1 on 1 fights to being able to hold my own against 3 or 4 enemies.

Also just changing from a sword to a mace won’t mean much if in your game it Henry has hardly a exeprience with maces.

There are a few things that need addressing in the game but in my opinion combat is not one, it’s a learning curve. Henry has no experience in fighting originally and by then you may have had some experience but armoured skilled enemies are dangerous.

Its based on strength, agility and ability, You start with next to zero and if you don’t practice or use the ability you will find you cannot complete sections because you are too incapable. How much archer practice have you undertaken besides side missions. Combat areas are for training. And as this is a RPG you won’t get better unless you put your actions to good use.

i killed him with 1 blow  dont know if that was a bug or what but nevermind. i will play this game again when i finish it

He has no head armor, I finished him off quickly with a couple stabs to the eye

See that’s the thing. I totally get that a heavily armored skilled fighter SHOULD be hard to beat, but how are you supposed to continue the story when there’s an unbeatable enemy? And how are you supposed to “git gud” this isn’t skyrim, there are no bandit camps waiting to be farmed for levels, there’s hardly any enemies outside the main story as far as I can tell so far, so how are you supposed to get enough experience to fight this termitator of a man?? That’s what I’m upset about. Not really the fact that I have such a hard time fighting him, its the fact that the player is expected to be able to fight him so early on.

Not enough experience? Dude there are literally hundreds of opportunities and a shit ton of bandits just lining up to get cut down. You can level up like crazy before the runt battle. I killed him in 3-4 strikes and one combo…

Fucking where? I have close to 30 hours now and I think I’ve fought multiple bandits maybe 4 or 5 times?

the capt of Rattay watever his name is that trains you and takes you on his mission to find Ginger gives you the locations of bandit camps to clear out, one after the other. You even get to collect their ears for a bounty. If you travel around more desolate roads you will run into bandits and even Cuman. Go out in the world and explore and do things more loke in RL. It’s really fucking good if you can wrap your head around what and how. good luck!

I ran into a small battle between Cumans and Christian soldiers and jumped into the fight and killed and looted some Cuman.

Hello there mate, I’ve made a post on the forum: How to: Sword-fighting, feel free to check it out.
