The forum controversy

I have been reading a lot and posting a bit on these forums. The war about the game, the bugs, and such is here for a few different reasons. But the biggest reasons I can see are two distinct type of forum users.

The game was released far to early and far to bug ridden, and it was well overpriced. This is the legit opinion of many forum users. So they are here naturally voicing their frustrations over a game they are not at all satisfied with. Why shouldn’t they be? It’s the official forums for crying out loud.

The first group responsible for this all out war is the group with the general mindset of defending the game as if their own lifes are at stake. And their small bubbles of “I don’t have bugs so the game is fine and all you with bugs and performance issues are whiners…” And the other part of the same group, that do not mind the bugs and excuse it with “It’s a low budget game, skyrim had more bugs, it is a small team and their first game, so shut up and deal with it”.

And then there is another group, the ps4 players accounting for all the hours they spent in game, and “its works just fine”, for them.

What the last two groups mentioned apparently fail to consider is that just because THEIR game was fine, or close to fine, does not necessarily mean that that is the case for everyone else. The last two groups argue from THEIR little bubble of bliss, and actually fail to see that, first of all the game seems to work different on different platforms, and secondly and even more important, WE ARE ALL INDIVIDUALS! What is fine or good for you might not be fine for other people. Some are fine with bugs and poor performance, while others are not. And performance is not at all as advertised for many console players. 30 fps was advertised, and that is not what is given. This issue is not gamebreaking, it does not render the game unplayable, but it is the principals that many console players might also have issues with.

There are so many factors and nobody complaining about the game would be here if the issues they state were not genuine. Even the big reviewers like IGN and GameSpot and others point out that bugs and performance is a big issue in kdc. Actually almost EVERY reviewer state this.

What I am saying is, to get some peace and normal dialog in this forum, LET PEOPLE COMPLAIN and stop being jerks and stop acting as if people with game issues are attacking you personally. If you are fine with the game in its current state, play it, instead of attacking people who actually want to play it and can’t. That would solve a lot of unease on the forums.

What you should acknowledge is the people who haven’t experienced problems, or experienced nearly the same level of problems, aren’t acting like nothing is wrong with the game. Most people have accepted there are issues going on, but they’ve also tried to explain that Warhorse is busy working on fixes and that does take time.

Some - including myself - have tried explaining that this is not uncommon in today’s video game industry, when games go gold before they probably should in order to make a release date and things are still getting worked on up to the day of release, leading to day-one patches and others along the way. It doesn’t matter if you like that this is where many video games are these days or not. The reality is that’s the way it is and people have the choice to buy a game upon release and take their chances, or wait and see what’s happening with it first.

Some people don’t like hearing that because they’d rather sling accusations around that Warhorse is just trying to rip them off, they’re bad for not offering the game for less than $60, they’re terrible at making games, and so on. It’s easy to come in and wallow in the mud, demanding refunds or whatever. It’s not as easy to have an open mind and try to exhibit a little patience.

This is a beautiful game with some very good RPG elements and it has a lot of potential to work as a medieval-based game that relies on more of a real-world setting. However, especially on consoles right now, it’s been marred by some bugs that are interfering with gameplay, up to and including lost and/or corrupted saves. That’s another topic that’s come up, and some people don’t want to hear reasonable advice along the lines of making sure they back up their saves to the cloud or a flash drive. They feel they shouldn’t have to do that and while that may be true, sometimes it’s necessary. Nothing is perfect.

I sympathize with people who are upset because they’ve lost time spent in the game or they aren’t happy with their purchase at the moment, but with each new poster that makes an account and comes in firing off accusations about this and that, the patience of the people who have been here for a while and followed the growth of this concept and game is going to wear thin. You can’t expect otherwise.

You can’t have it both ways. You don’t get to sit here and tell everybody to let people complain while ignoring the fact many of the complaints go overboard and are just there for people to gripe with a number of them failing to take into account the complexities in place or acknowledge another POV as being valid. It’s not okay for people to accuse others of being fanboys or Warhorse employees just because they try to explain things or say something someone doesn’t want to hear.

I’ve said it before: if people don’t want to deal with a potentially buggy game that costs $60 at release, wait. Don’t buy it right away. Let the price drop. Give it time for the bugs to be further identified and solved. That will also tell you how committed and capable a company is when it comes to fixing them.

You want people to have the freedom to complain? Fine, but you should also demand people stay away from what often ends up as low-effort trolling that’s meant more to piss people off than get anywhere productive.

If you like the game, if you like what it has to offer, it’s about a month since it came out. Give Warhorse a chance to make it better. Multiple games have been bug-ridden at launch and improved with more time put into them. You probably aren’t getting your money back anyway, so it’s in your best interest to see if they can make it work. If they do, they’ll have proven themselves. If they fail, they’ll become another gaming company that ultimately couldn’t succeed in the end when it comes to fixing problems, which will cost them a lot of trust. Which of those results do you want to see come about?

I have seen the foaming at the mouth people blindly defending the undefendable. ignorant at other peoples genuine issues and heaping anyone into the pile, even people with genuine sadness at loving the game but not being able to play it

The studio are making patches this is proof enough that shit is broken, accepted reality. So fuck off doing mental gymnastics.

Then there is the woefully ignorant people who didn’t read the reviews and written acknowledgment of the bugs, or who bought the game with little or no idea about the concept of the game . Then off to the forums Waaa it is too hard , waaaa it has bugs. Then piss and moan to no end to try force it to become the game they thought they’d get when they mindlessly purchased it.

Then there is the true fuckwits. That whined about the game being pushed back. Whining still when the game is then released not in an optimal state. And now apply the same fuck wit mentality , hounding the Devs when’s the patch, when’s the patch. Yeah that’s it rush the patch too so we can hear more whining from you cunts when the patch isn’t optimal either. The mind boggles at these .

…or imagine the KCD would never be made.

Over all the risks the warhorse studios decided to go a new way - and they made something new - in my opinion - NEW GENERATION RPG.

Quests I always imagined, almost real combat system and that all in the world I do not even want to leave.

RESPECT and THANKS!

Bugs can be fixed and they will be.
I can be patient and I can wait.

Because - IT’S WORTH IT!

And now imagine how good KCD II can be.
After these necessary experiences with the first step to something NEW.

English is not my native language.

Look mate, nobody here will accept the current buggy status of the game. Not even those of us who defend it. I love this game but I’ve also made multiple threads giving feedback and I started one where people could state all their problems and ideas and how they should be fixed. The problem arises when idiots who have already refunded the game start hounding on the forums and poisoning it for the new guys who want to get into the game. And then there are those who want to give the game a bad reputation simply because they can’t handle the skill based mechanics. People here usually argue with such guys. There’s no denying that they rushed it out and It’s unacceptable but we’ve also gotta consider the devs story and the problems they face instead of hounding off like a stupid child. They don’t have a personal mint to print money. They are trying to make it better so let’s give them that chance

On top of that, many of US made this game a reality with our Kickstarter support, so it’s natural for us to be invested in seeing it succeed. I’ve been fortunate to have a mostly problem-free time of it so far. I WANT more people to be able to say the same. I WANT Warhorse to get the kinks worked out. I WANT them to be able to make more games like this.

Everyone should want that, because it will be good for video games as a whole.

Stumbles out of the gate are no fun, but they can be recovered from.

everyone knows that the release didnt go so well and that there are still lots of bugs in the game
some players are more affected by it others got lucky and can play almost bugfree.

There have been many players raging from Day1 and complaining about lockpicking for example, many of these now figured out that its not as bad as it seemed in the beginning since they needed the perk etc. nonetheless Warhorse has reacted and will make it easier for console.

I see that some are frustrated but this is a huge open world rpg from a small inexperienced studio that sets new standards for role play games. It was clear that there will be bugs right from the start. Unfortunately there are some severe ones that need to be fixed asap. I’m not trying to defend Warhorse I even say that they lack some communication especially on the forums, I know that they have a lot to do right now.
Overall I just ask for some patience and understanding and for everyone to keep calm

I am also a person who want the game to succeed. Although not a backer. Cause I really find the games ideas intriguing and fresh.

That said, arguing that other games are bugged as well or that wh did not have enough money and they are a small studio and those kind of things is no excuse for releasing a broken, for some unplayable piece of software.

Many of the "defenders of the game and of which as a studio do not only attack trolls or players that can’t cope with mechanics. Many just bash anyone with a critique of the game.

Also I am aware that many people with critiques use a foul language and many also complain about mechanics they should have known was in the game.

I myself have had quite a few annoying beta stage bugs and appaling fps and textures popping in to a degree where it really takes away from immersion in the game world. I have deleted game and will now wait until patched properly.

But if I want to complain about what I individually find annoying enough to take away from my experience I should be able to, without being called a whiner, or being told to deal with it or get out of the forum.

Everyone has the rights to complain, or tell they are happy with their gaming experience so far, but in either case, without going all flames and being inconstructive…

Complaining without actually contributing to bug reports is no use and doesnt make problems being adressed faster, neither blindfolded White-Knighting is going to make the game perfect.

We have to be patient, adress our concerns and praises in a meaningful and constructive manner, and let the studio do their job to fix and improve this (actually or future, your pick) amazing game !

SPOILER IN COMMENT!

I read about KDC years ago, and googled it from time to time. And man, I was so exited when I read that it would be released soon. I even bought a new PC for it, because I was tired of grafic downgrading on PS4. And now, I just ended the storyline yesterday, after 124 hours of gameplay. Did I love it?

I dont know. It has so much potential. And it starts so good, but you just feel, that time was running out. The graphic is beautiful. I had no gliches and Problems, till the did Patch 1.2. After that, it got worse and worse.
And than some plotwholes, like the Theresaquest, or the cloisterone.

SPOILER BELOW!

Summary

Spoiler! But what was most suprising for me, was that the whole Story ist about the sword, and than you dont get it at the end, and you have to wait for it, for an DLC? That kinda sucked. I mean I am very exited to go back and continue the Adventure with Henry, but this was a bad cliffhanger.

My relationship with KDC is: we have our Problems, there is a lot to fix, but we love each other. She is sexy, but she has her flaws.

So you are no wife beater then? :yum:

Would you please edit that comment to either remove the spoiler, make it more obvious with some extra space between it and the rest, or put it in a new thread? Many people have yet to finish the game - I’m one of them - and a quick read is going to lead to finding that spoiler without much of a chance to skip over it.

(Thanks)

Sorry Flashfire! I changed it.

I think you left out one group. That being the people who try to offer advice, workarounds and such, but are sometimes ignored in favour of carrying on the pointless fight with so-called fan boys. Of course people have aright to complain when they’re dissatisfied, and should not be attacked for it. But some title their threads in capitals and trash anyone who doesn’t see things their way, so… Here’s hoping things quiet down when all three platforms are fixed to such an extent that there’s little left to complain about.

Some users rant incessantly. That isn’t saying one’s peace. That’s carrying out an agenda

Some users acknowledge the flaws, believe QA screwed the pooch on some things like too many game studios nowadays (Todd Howard are you listening), but think the price point isn’t over the top for a creative approach that is sorely missing in the gaming industry

You can also use the hide text functionality of this forum for spoilers

If the game was finalized we would not even have this type of conversation…everyone would prefer to say good things about this game and enjoy it. Unfortunately it’s not the case and we are really far from this state. To be honnest, I really fear that they will not be able to correct everything.

First time playing a game is always unique and this was a dissapointement for many players.

They should have wait maybe…but in any case if the game was released it’s because they considered it as enough polished to be played, personally it’s not my quality standard at all.

What would their “agenda” be? Besides venting and trying to convince certain “Knights of Valor”, that their problems is actually genuine? Sincere question. What might their agenda be?

Yes, that is because that group is not to blame for the state of the forum.

You are absolutely right. Nobody complains about a good game. They tend to choose to play it, instead of hanging out on forums. :slightly_smiling_face:
