So there’s been a lot of talk about swords and their implementation in the combat system but I think I’ve only seen one post mentioning lances and pole-arms on the forum. As pole-arms were the primary weapons of most soldiers when going into battle I hope that Warhorse puts due emphasis on them during development. A good lance/spear (mounted) system should be put into place even if a tournament mode with jousting never happens. I hope that my questions will be answered in the next video update on combat.
As a huge fan of polearm weapons, I am also looking forward to seeing them in the game, and lances would indeed be the most logical choice of weapon on horseback when not hailing the enemy with arrows. So count me in on those who wait for video updates about the matter!
polearms are in, you can see in some shots and videos, we just haven’t seen any combat footage.
see guy in center:
Two polearm or spear-type weapons will make it into the game, as far as I know.
If there’s only two I’ll be shocked, and a little disappointed. I don’t think that’s going to happen though.
Yeah, two polearms/spears seem too few.
At least now we know that there will be bill hooks! I see lances there too.
I’m sure in videos they have posted, I’ve seen Halberdiers/Poleaxes.
yes, the two soldiers patrolling the town have some type of halberd
We definitely need lots of polearms and combat at least as in-depth as swordplay.
Some Polearms fighting tactics
gooood
maybe some of the future animations for poleaxes…
Brutal … far more effective than a sword against armor plates, chanmail or leather jerkins.
Note that the guards in the castle were scripted, somewhere in one of the commentaries it was said that they weren’t implemented with the ability to use their pole arms.
That said, I agree with just about everyone on this thread. I would like to have guards capable of combat should I decide to commit an offense in the castle.
Also the choice to wield a pole arm may be a tactical decision depending on what Henry is facing. Someone on this thread said that pole arms are in for development and that’s good to hear.
