So does anyone have any suggestions for another Kingdom Come Talk video, Or should I just refer back to my list of goodies and pick one outta a hat
Do you want to do something about the language in Bohemia? I really enjoy listening to your attempts to pronounce the Czech names (You absolutely butcher even the words I would consider easy to pronounce, it’s adorable
).
lol, yeah thats my English speaking incompetence, I might do something like that once my audience has widened a little if you get me.
Actually I don’t see it as incompetence, more inexperience. And it is actually interesting how people that have no experience with Czech diction and pronunciation go and say the words they see written.
I have to commend you on your attempt to say “Stříbrná” it was really close and it is really difficult to say without any training as it is three syllable word with two vowels and “ř” is nothing to sneeze at either.
What was bit odd was “Sázava”, “Rataje” a “Úžice”. You pronounced “Sázava” like “Sahzava” when all the vowels are exactly same in this word and the firs just has a stress on and is slightly longer. “Rataje” is pronounced more like “Rataie” we would write what you said as “Rataže” which leads me to “Úžice” which is correctly pronounced as “Ujice”.
What I also noticed is that when a word ends with an “e” you seem assume it is silent, but we do pronounce them, so “Skalice”, “Úžice” and “Samopše” are three syllable words (Samopesh is close transcription that is lot easier to pronounce than “Samopshe”).
I had heard someone say rah tah jay and sahk za va hence why i said it that way.
So would Úžice be pronounced U jic see or U jice (jice rhyming with the likes of nice)
Ive recently had someone talk to me on skype willing to correct me for future videos so hopefully he helps me with this in the future
This one is closer. [u:ʒiʦɛ] is the phonetic transcription. The e used is not the one like in see but like in end. I actually can’t find English word that ends with this vowel.
lol, language barriers are a bitch
Thanks this gives me a much better perspective
Anytime man, and ill have more videos on this game soon enough
