During the cold war, the west was utterly outgunned in Europe, especially when it comes to armor.
The main defensive strategy of the US was to atom bomb the shit out of the areas that the Warsaw pact armies were supposed to got through. I.e. not atom bombing Russia and thus inviting their nuclear reprisal.
One of the main targets was Austria. As a neutral state, the plan was to make it a nuclear wasteland impassable for soldiers without being radiated like fuck.
Surely, the Warsaw pact armies knew it. The combat plans for the communist Czechoslovak army were to go through Germany to reach France. The plans actually expected it was very much feasible. After two weeks, according to the plan, most of the Czechoslovak army men (hundreds of thousands) would be dead and replaced by the Russian units.

No, I don’t have PS, and my computer can’t run modern games. I plan to buy something just because of the KCD. Unless I decide to put the money into flat/car/guns.

still are the European nato forces must have a little over a thousand tanks . bloody stupid the new thing is IFV’s ,APC’s as they are quicker but they add no where near the same presence on the battlefield
What are tanks good for when you have javelins both in hand and on APCs and light cars?
Most of our air force are actually L159 specialized in killing tanks and helis.
the sheer terror from the sound of a tank is unbelievable, if you have ever seen the film "saving private Ryan " when the tiger enters the town it is practically identical to that sound .
javlins are amazing to fire very expensive though we used to work out how much we had wasted each time we missed

The Czech soldiers were describing how they entered Afghanistan at the beginning of the war with shitload of RPGs. At first the Americans and Brits used to laugh at them. After some time they realized that the standard grenade launchers are no match to RPGs, and things like javelins are too expensive to just give two of them to each soldier. Now US is making their own “stupid” RPGs.
The best part was apparently that the Taliban knew RPGs very well and preferred not to be shot at with them.
We just sent 5000 RPGs to the Kurds, hopefully they’ll put them to good use against the ISIS.
we used to have 2 javlins strapped to the back of our jackal (off road truck ) and about 10 missiles (£500,000) worth of missile they used to get funny with us about how many we went through . but 10 missiles doesnt go far in a 12 hour firefight . but on my last tour they rolled out the “NLAW” which is slightly cheaper so we got both ended up more expensive for them
