If you want a practical reason, then with the light it might make sense as a home defense weapon. Of course having the knife in the other hand is a better option, but presumably that is the hand in which you have the phone with the police on the line.
But the really handy thing is that if you push a pistol deep against the body of the attacker (which may happen in close quarters) it may get out of battery and then you can pull the trigger but it won’t shoot. The only way around that is either the bayonet or a revolver.
First if it is a long barrel shotgun, it is not that easy to navigate in the rooms and someone can get hold of it while the other gangmembers get into you.
Secondly the loudness is way higher than with pistol. You are likely to hear nothing after the first shot inside the room. You don’t want to lose one sense when you need all of them.
But if you have your earplugs and one attacker in a large hall, semi-auto shotgun all the way.
I am too happy with the CZ to go elsewhere right now. This will be the full size range gun/home defense gun. Then I’ll buy 4-6 old CZs starting with 24 (I am especially looking forward to fire Tokarev from the 52) and after that I’ll start with other makes.
As regards Hi-Power I am more inclined to go into 1911.
Sig is too similar to CZ, it is actually fairly same gun with higher bore axis for much more money.
Right now I am set on the full size 75 and on Ruger kLCR .357 (for GF).
I was also hoping to pick one of these up. My brother got one a few years back for 100 bucks and bought a shit ton of ammo for cheap but their prices have gone up since then.
BTw bayonets are not illegal in most states in the U.S.
Well i would say its your personal preference but since I’m a true American i would say 1911
Ive shot shotguns without ear plugs before after we drove 30-40 minutes into the mountains to go shooting. To make matters worse it was in a narrow cannon so the noise was amplified. How ever then noise was no where near deafening.
Even then they might run. This guy had 3 cartel hitman try to break into his house they were all armed and he sent them running with their tales between their legs with his shotty. They’re used to shooting civilans in Mexico that don’t have access to guns. Big mistake trying that in the U.S
well yes when you see a big hole get blown through the wall next to you i dont think many people would be hanging round attempting to grab the barrel of your gun.
im very tempted to get myself a shot gun licence was talking to the guy at work who has a number of shotguns .
he pays £300 a year to a farmer to use his land to hunt and for a reference of where he uses the shotguns , which is required to get a licence . which isnt that bad really .
on top of your fee’s in getting the licence it would cost me over all £350 ish then obviously the shotgun cost on top of that
Well 9mm ammo is still far cheaper than .45 and 1911 in 9mm is not a proper 1911.
But more importantly the full size will be completely the same gun as regards grip, trigger and sights as the compact one. I plan to shoot the full size much more on the range and the similarity will basically make the full size training fully applicable to any use of the concealed carry weapon. If I had different full size for range I would still need to put extra time into training with the compact.
Try that in your bedroom.
What is in England apart from foxes and rabbits and oxmore ponnies?
What are the limitations in UK? Pump actions? Semi auto?
I plan to get a shotgun once I get a car and try trap and skeet. My GF’s uncle is actually quite a successful in it.
was just looking at it online apparently they have relaxed the rules alot . and the application is pretty simple . one form , details of any convictions , medical history all that crap , and someone that has personally known you for 2 years as a witness signature.
if thats fine a police officer will come and visit you . inspect your gun safe if installed and if he is happy he will report back and they will grant the license
There is no gun use proficiency to prove in UK to get the license?
I think I would seriously think about getting gun illegally rather than allow a cop into my flat.
We have wild boar infestation here. The government now even started subsidizing night visions to hunters so that they can better cap them in the nights.
nope . to get anything more than a shotgun gets a little more tricky though , in terms of paper work and i think you have to have a shotgun certificate for a number of years before hand
Well if anyone knocks on my door my first answer is “wait a minute, I need to dress up”. Not that I would need more clothes, if you know what I mean.
And sure as hell nobody gets in without judicial warrant. I think it is a cultural thing of having history of 300 years of Habsburg occupation, 6 years of genocidal Nazi occupation and then 40 of the Commies. There is no way I would invite government into my home.
You are actually obliged by law here to allow access to coppers to check your safe keeping in case you have a full-auto firearm (or RPG - unlikely to get a permit for that though, or tank, etc.). The outcome is that most people stick to semi-autos, even though full-autos cost the same (unlike in US).
I was recently talking with a German guy about it and they have it similar like you do. He gets checked up at least once a year. In case he would forget a round in gun - or even in a magazine that would not be inserted in the gun - within the safe bye bye to guns. Needless to say he is now seriously planning to move to the Czech Republic - he has 12 guns in Germany and from what he told me it is quite hard to get more. Which kind of sucks if you are gun enthusiast.
Well, that is interesting. I believe that idiotic hunters here kill/wound more people than CCers, despite the ratio being about 80.000 hunters - 220.000 CCers (outside of self-defense). And that is after they had to go through proficiency test. Maybe trecking outside of roads is not that popular in UK?
i dont have a problem with it at all you would be given warning they are coming an appointment as such. its only one check when you renew your certificate (every 5 years ) and when you first apply .
i dont see what your issue with it is , its a bloke doing his job who would also be into guns himself . you seem as if you have some serious trust issues and maybe even a little PTSD from a past experience i mean that in the most kind hearted way possible
I did grow up in the town with the highest crime rate in the country, so go figure. Or to be exact in a very safe village next to a very unsafe town where I went to school 12-19 yo. The school was in the worst part of the town (used to be the best part in 60s - that has changed, just the school remained).
My family still lives there. I spent couple hours in past two days giving advices to a friend’s family because his 12yo brother was jumped by a gang of 12-15yo gypsies on the way from school in that town. Fortunately he got out of that without needing hospital care, but I remember how bad it is when it happens the first time.
I know that bad things happen to good people. I have the right to be armed and I’d very happily carry for next 50 years without ever needing to use the gun. I’ve been there when I needed one but had none and I sure as hell won’t be in that position again.
On the “bloke” - good that he gives you warning in advance, I think that in Germany it is a surprise visit.
