prince harry served twice in Afghanistan.
prince William (heir to the throne ) wanted to go but wasnt allowed so instead . served in the RAF search and rescue . and now he flies an air ambulance .

duke of Edinburgh (queens husband ) served in the navy in the pacific in WW2
the Queen was a mechanic during the war fixing military vehicles

alot of the royal family have served .i could list many more but there the ones i know from the top of my head. they’re actually very down to earth which is why they are so loved here . they use their power for good of the people .

I can’t but wonder how much of that is a PR spin and how much of that is a real thing to be commended, nevertheless, I am quite surprised.

The last “royals” we had were Habsburgs. They were inbred to the point that half of children died before being 12 and half of those suriviving were fucked up pretty well too.

none of his military career is PR . prince harry hates the media (they killed his mum after all ) and as he says himself often hates being a prince , he is very much an average lad . like anything we cant help what we are born into

although of course what they dont tell you was , when camp bastion came under attack prince harry was whisked away by a close protection SAS unit into a secure part of the base . so while he was allowed to do as any other soldier he had a dome of protection just close enough to him should it be needed

He was always a hot topic in U.S. media as being the “bad boy” prince getting into trouble and rebelling (being a teenage boy rightfully so) then he joined the military and no one cared anymore doesn’t sell as well.

he has maintained that rebellious streak even now . his antics in Vegas was while he was in the army and that was world wide news (why i dont know ) .

but i think he has learnt as he has got older that he simply cant get away with much without it being splashed across the global media .

i think in the US you’re sold this hompus pompus bollocks about them and in classic us media fashion everything is dramatised . when in reality they’re far more down to earth and far more understanding of the struggles of living in the UK than the majority of our politicians (which is why they’re so loved here ) .

for example there was big to do about prince Charles writing letters to the government and giving his advice etc on partiular issues .

the media spent millions and years demanding these letter were made public at that they were a breach of his role etc etc . this year they were released by a court order .

he was writing about things that effected the everyday brit and things such as why our military was being sent to iraq poorly equipped . global warming and what we should be doing . and it was quite enjoyable watching every comment on these articles turn on the papers in his defence as it was quite clear he was a man that cared about the UK and about the world as a whole

that was his second tour . he was an Apache gunner . not alot of danger but it was public knowledge he was serving there and was in bastion hence the attack :slight_smile: his first tour he was on the front line and no one was aware he was there . watch the video . speaks for its self .

Well since the media didn’t mention the SAS guards, maybe they didn’t mention other things.
He could have just sat miles away from the combat in a nice safe base, and you wouldn’t know.
