I just checked and apparently Oregon has background checks on guns, so i really don’t know how in the fuck this guy got his guns. I’m willing to bet they were his parents guns.

nope , they were fazed out over a number of years , a large number did hand them in , during the first year . but no police did not storm their houses and take the guns away . they simply stopped issuing certificates and papers for them .

From what i understand you were told to hand in your pistols or go to jail. I know for a fact this happened in Australia, the real life Crocodile Dundee refused to give up his guns and was shot by police after he took down 3 of them.

there is NO pistol ban as such . no law states you cant own a pistol . it states the weapons barrel cannot be less than 6 inches . so people simply stick a longer barrel on them .

(for the sake of the argument however i will call it the pistol ban . )

when the ban was introduced in 1997 it meant they would no longer issue a certificate to own a pistol . HOWEVER if you already had a certificate , you was allowed to run that down and keep the pistol during this time , then have it decommissioned or whatever .

so if you applied a got a certificate to own a pistol in early 1996 you would still be able to hold on to that pistol legally for the full six years that the certificate is valid .

so they didnt cancel anyone’s licencees they simply stopped issuing new ones

i doubt you would be convicted of anything . our justice system is no where near as harsh as yours . and it would be done by a jury at worst case . it would completely depend on the situation .

[/quote] wouldnt be illegal because you would still have a certificate . also if you was to sell it to a major weapons company , they would have a section 5 certificate which allowed them to trade and keep any fire arm whatsoever .

also people do this regularly when they inherit a weapon they cant legally posses from a family member . they can legally go and sell that weapon

for starters is was an illegal shotgun , secondly he just had it loaded thrown on the back seat . when it should be in a case .
