In case any Norwegians happen to stumble in here.

Wrong pic. He tried to get an AK in Prague and failed. He ultimately got through the red tape in Norway, legally obtained a Ruger Mini 14, and used that in the killings.

[There are next to no AKs on Czech black market as even legal AKs cost three times the price of Vz.58s]

Don’t ever change @snejdarek,

but as you’re aware there are many remakes of the AK with the Vz.58 being one of them …another popular one being the type 56 then you have the rest …MPi-KMS72 a german variant , then you have polish versions , Egyptian versions , Romanian versions etc practically every poor shitty or ex soviet nation made a variant of the AK . so when discussing AK’s on the streets are we including all the variants and copies ? or just a real russian AK ?

the balkans are the issue with weapons smuggling in europe . the rounds used in the charlie hebdo attack came from bosnia . where there is estimated to be around 750,000 illegally held weapons as a result of the civil wars in that region . add that to borderless europe and you have a huge issue.

few rifles in the back of a car and you can go to any major European city with ease . thank fuck the UK has a natural border

This guy would fit in here.

When it floods in Portland you either say fuck it, go swimming, or take the Kayak to work.

Vz.58 resembles AK only externally, mainly because it uses the same cartridge which dictates the same curve of the magazine. It is, however, internally a completelly different design.

So, let me correct you. All communist countries (and notably also Finland, Switzerland, Israel) were making copies or variants of AKs, just Czechs went their own way.

hardly went your own way . its firmly in the AK extended family . you cant possibly sit there and say they started with a blank bit of paper and just so happen to design Vz.58 . bollocks , they took the AK and redesigned it and built your own version .

if you took one of them into a shopping centre people would scream you have an AK .

No, they took Vz.52 and redesigned it to vz.58. In order to appeal the Moscow they made it so as to resemble Ak 47 externally. Internally, the gun operates completely differently, being closer to Stg 44 than Ak 47.

For fuck’s sake it can’t even use the Ak 47 magazines.

Here is, for example, Canadian perspective:

fair point

for me the vz.58 goes firmly in the AK family …maybe the extended family

accurate as fuck

I have a feeling the locals would have rather been giving things like food, and medicine, instead of a 27 million dollar statue.

The M60 is very similar mechanically to the Fg-42,( we obviously copied the design in a lot of ways) and yet you wouldn’t say they are the same guns, or even from the same family of guns, because they look different. Just because it looks similar does not mean it operates similar.
