This game brings me momories of trying to create my own

Just wanted to share with you guys, as my project is dead for years, but Warhorse clicked with ideas I had some time ago. Influenced by Sapkowski’s hussites triology and country I live in, wanted to create realistic game built a lot on early medieval world and it’s myths. No fantasy as the Tolkien or the latest high fantasy, but mainly as people at that time was taking it in the fairytales and so one. Quite rough and lot of story oriented. Simply to say I can;t wait for KDC to be here  If anyone interested, there is some pictuers of how the game should have look like :smile:here

That was an nice setup you had my friend, sadly it didnt came thru to see the light of day, hopefully your next project will do.

You have no idea how much I understand you, I never got to images or a demo like yourself but 5+ years ago I started writing in a small journal ideas I could use for a medieval inspired game though a bit more towards the fantasy & fairytales side. This journal is still there filled with stories of castles & kings, magic & lore, riding & conquest, quest names & tales from a lost time.
At the top of each page, I’d write the abbreviation of the game’s title followed by “gameplay” or “graphics” or “sounds”…depending on the idea that was to be written about on that page.
At the top of each page, I’d write the abbreviation of the game’s title…
At the top of each page, I’d write K.C. :))))
You have no idea the overwhelming feeling & the goosebumps I had when I first saw the project on kickstarter, I couldn’t pledge immediately & if I could I would have pledged a lot more than I finally did!
At the top of each page, I’d write Kingdom Come, a title I borrowed from a song of the band Manowar.
Thank you Warhorse! Thank you so much! I can’t wait for Kingdom Come: Deliverance!

I love the pics and video, OGI. Too sad the project is dead. Do you want to share some background information on your project? Like which engine you have used, where your assets came from (or if you even built them yourself) etc. I’m currently working with Unity and would be very interested hearing about your experiences.

Well we had an group of people working on the project in our spare time, I was mainly project coordinator, game designer and storry writer, aldo doing some graphics for the game. Than we had in our team few 3D artists and working with external programmers who was supposed to deliver an engine for that game… sadly this was a killer for our game as the were not able to come up with functional engine and toolset. At that time it wasn’t that easy as today to go for something like UDK, CryEngine or Unity for a testing/non-commercial development. After working for about 2 years the team kinda lacked the focus and that was it… people was more focused on their school or daily jobs as we wasnt able to get much of a funding. But was great times, we were spread around Czech republic, so twice a year we had a meeting for weekend to share and cooperate more, usually we shared experiences, also going outside to get some real sight of buildings and so one. Worked with people from museums or historical reanactment groups. we visited places as Curia VItkov to get some inspiration at talk with people who are building it. We took a lot of pictures which we used to re-create the buildings in 3D and use also for texturing… great times  I still keep al the models and documentation just for sake that maybe one day I will have time to finish atlast some small part of the game

Shame your efforts didn’t come to pass but…on the up side…means you’ll have a headstart in providing a quality mod or mods for the game?Maybe, even,as the project grows you could actually get involved in the dev side of this game…if Warhorse were to take on new people?
Like the ideas of a medieval world grounded in fact and reality but made fantasy through myths and legends being added in…like the Old world of Legend from the Dragon Warriors pen and paper rpg way back(Or even the fil the Brothers Grimm?)
Mind you…I suppose it could be argued that The Witcher series does the gritty realism and the myth!
Hope those of you who have had these ideas and such have them realised in the future or,at the very least, manage to gain employment in a position where you can bring some of your ideas into being!

I posted a topic quite similar awhile back except my period was/is early hundred years war. As I am only in high school I got a long way to go before I can make something like this but I’ve been researching a lot and learning about how games are made. When I saw KCD I was instantly sold even before the kickstarter. It’s almost exactly what I envisioned. I’m still determined though to make my game eventually. After all, what good is a breakthrough game if there’s nothing on the other side of the breach?

I would suggest that if you pick it up again, try Unity out, not perfect but very nice to get something visible on screen an playable
Unity developer myself

I would also suggest that you look at lot of online tools there are:
http://variancetheory.com/detonator/ explosions in Unity
http://area.autodesk.com/products/features/charactergenerator names says it all

The phenomenon that when looking at other people’s projects every creative people develop their own ideas , is now not new. The modder scene thrives and occasionally arise remarkable products. To the topic of the Middle Ages especially , because it is part of the history of every human being .
Middle Ages to make playable, is less a question of the story or design of game content but first more programming a game environment . Here there since years of deadlock , because the next step must be very complex. Who this step succeeds , is a completely new genre unleash (and probably in terms of engine) take a long time for a leading role . This step is our education system and later the entertainment sector shape .
Unfortunately, most developers think " top to bottom " - here’s the Engine and there is your game with this . Buy the Playing , go! What else there is not, so no complains rum .
As long as no new ground , every idea is stuck in the present. Modders are important, but visionaries were now more necessary … Possibly. KCD is a first step which breaks the wall into the future by way of the Middle Ages.

Well to say, that game wasn’t supposed to be mod, I should have bean a game. But as it is with most of the home made projects, where just big dreams and ideas aren’t possible without money  It is better to focus on something smaller. I know the engines and possibilities that are on the market now, but simply to say it does not make much sense to put the project back to life, maybe use it in some mod or provide to a mod comunity so they can build up on the models and so one  I have also re-created the environment in Unity quite some time ago, just for fun of it and test the engine, it is not that bad  But for now I will rather focus on developing some smaller mobile games, it is achievable target

I understand well, where you have the advantage that you can build it yourself at least;) I for my part have only a detailed blueprint ideas full and need someone for implementation. A lot of stupid situation, I can tell you …
And, unfortunately, true, money rules the world. The big publishers have the money and ideas monopoly and thus set the boundaries of the gaming experience. Already for many years. Therefore, chances are good that the next generation of great games occur on private (pre-) funded level. I pray that KCD perceives this opportunity.

Look at Banish (currently on steam sale) I would say an exception, but also an example to show that it is possible…

Making a game is in my opinion, having a great idea (this is where everybody succeeds), look for a way to make your idea into a game (people pick up on Unity and UDK or other fairly ez to use frameworks/engines, but already lost about 20-25% on this step).

But the next step is where 99% stops, STICK WITH It, making a game is not something you plan on 2-3 weeks time. a good game takes years to be made (maybe already 1year where you iterate over the design in you head, putting some ideas on napkins cause you had great idea when at restaurant with family,…) then taking the time to learn the technology to turn your dream into what an entire community dreams about…

And yes I know what I’m talking about, I’ve been working for about 10years on a concept in my head, got more then 100 pages and post-its of ideas and notes about (some more structured then others  ) And few weeks back took the step of stopping the designing, working on a second demo (already made short demo year ago) and start making progress that I couldn’t do before for several reason (technology wise as personal)

just don’t give up on your game, make sure the mechanic is amazing and the arts can follow later…

Banished - good example. “Anno” with sustainability factor and micromanagement. It’s fun, yes. But it was still sooo many times since (except perhaps sustainability). As part playful element always welcome and appreciated. But Anno is 15 years old! Where is the next (progress) step? KCD is already on the right track, but within self set limits with only limited development potential . More I say public not …

Banish is a wonderful first step, I think main focus of a new project shouldn’t be innovation, but is making something already. Once you took first step even if there is no big innovation, this will help you to make the next step and if your first step got appreciated, this will give you a push to try a bigger step after that…

Also the biggest achievement for me from Banish is the team size

Yes, I would wish the developers in our player interest from the heart. It is also interesting, that real innovations over recent years often came from mini-studios (M & B, etc.)

That’s because big studio’s are locked in corporate structure

and not all innovation is from small studio’s, got non conventional ones doing their share (Valve to name biggest of that kind)

I feels for you man. Game development is a rough business to be in.

I remember i even had a project, but it was not so similar to this, but a more simple game thouge with some friends, But it died slowly out after some month only the leader and me are still eager to get it back, maybe rest of the group. This was in the beginning of the 2013 and now it maybe get back again.

This is what we gott http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIuIUMMdHwg

wow, I didn’t checked this topic for a while and now I see there is lot of replies here  nice you guys are chearing up for this and I hope than all of us will get their ideas in to even small game one day. I’m still trying to get the game somehow in an smaller and easier way done, but it is tough due to i’m not programmer and having to go through tons of tutorials on UDK (which I have chosen for the game), also not every tutorial can lead in the desired feature/understandning, but I step by step play around and will see what is possible to do. If someone here is working with UDK and would like to share some ideas or give helping hand, would be nice  When I have something worth sharing, I will for sure post some pics here also
