This game is comparable to Skyrim (Text Heavy)

Lots of people said this game and Skyrim are not comparable, but in my opinion they are. I’ve clocked ~70 hours in Kcd and 200 hours in Skyrim, in my opinion they are different games, but not really Completely Different like many other people said. Let me list those similarities below, and I expect to get insight from you guys, because I could be wrong.

  • Both games have stealth system, in which the playable character sneaks behind enemies to knock out/kill/pickpocket them.

  • Both games also have lockpicking system and abundant chests lying around. Skyrim’s lockpicking is a bit easier and Kcd’s is more rewarding. One thing I hate about Kcd lockpicking system is that it’ s almost impossible to pick very hard locks unless your skill is high and you have some good perks.

  • Pickpocketing: Neither game does well at this. In Skyrim it’s mostly luck based and Kcd’s is easy as hell. At mid-game in Kcd I can pickpocket any person and the time to pickpocket is like 15 seconds average.

  • Sleeping in beds: you can sleep in many beds in both games and Npc can hit you if it’s not your own bed.

  • Wait system. I really hate Kcd when it comes to this. It’s so tedious staring at the slow moving clock, and the game even freezes for a few secs then takes you to the damn long loading screen before you can get back to the game.

  • Fast travel system: I prefer Skyrim by a long shot. I like that my energy and nourishment decreases and bandit attacks occur during traveling, but it’s too damn slow looking at my character walking in the map. Even when I reached the destination I have to wait for 10 more seconds for the screen to load. Damn!

  • Speech: Kcd obviously does it better.

  • Archery: Kcd wins any day.

  • Hunting. I like that there’s no aim in Kcd when it comes to archery, but the wild animal variety is so poor.

  • You can pick herbs in both games.

  • Both games have books that you can read and learn skills from.

  • You can ride horses in both games.

  • Alchemy. Kcd is much better, but also more tedious towards the end of the game. Thankfully there’s autobrew perks.

That’s all I can think of. In my opinion both games have A LOT of similarities. They are not really completely different games!!!

I’m not trying to troll so please be serious here. If you think those things I mentioned were also in other rpg games, tell me one game that does all those things.

Well most of these things exist on paper since early DnD altho KC:D has similarities to skyrim (but also to witcher series and many other RPGs) in how they’re implemented - and I don’t know if this means anything because if you take for example lockpicking there are only 2 ways of making it in videogame - it’s either plain RNG or some kind of minigame, so it will be ‘like morrowind’ or ‘like skyrim’, but really it’s the same DnD-inspired concept - to be able to play as a ‘rogue treasure hunter’ and deal with ‘treasure chests’ and locked doors, using ‘thieves’ tools’. So KC:D and Skyrim are truly similar in that they both are 1st person open-world RPGs, which then defines how they have to work

Skyrim is just the most obvious and mainstream thing to compare with, but when I played KC:D for the first time, I felt strong flashbacks to Fable, somehow

This game is definitely heavily inspired by TES Oblivion and Skyrim.
UI .
NPC Schedule System. (Gothic 2 and U4 did it but that was a long time ago)
Crime mechanics.
Player freedom.

I perosnally belive skyrum is over rated, yes its an awsome game but the stories in the game and all are just wayyyyyyyyyy too simple and linear, its most of the time boring with the quests due to lack of creativity.

I love this game and i think personally its far better than skyrum because of the detail put in into everything they do, plus the quests you do actually mean something, and have plenty of different ways to play them out ESPECIALLY THE FACT OF HIDDEN PATHS THROUGH THE QUESTS!!! For instance you can get your friends put into prison for planning to steal if you go to the bailif, depending on what place it is ( THIS DOES NOT SHOW YOU ON THE QUESTS AS OPTIONAL) Its hidden, iv found so many of them.
Love it, Combat is also defo the best iv ever seen, its so real and mega mega fun with major challenge

Then this game is also very much like the Witcher 3. Both games have you able to sleep in bed(s).
Both systems have a wait system. Both systems have a travel system. Witcher has a speech skill which can you level 3 times. Both hgames have archery, you can hunt, you can pick herbs, you can read, you can ride horses, you can do alchemy. I believe quit a lot of games have these things.

Sure, it’s an open world RPG game. Most of them have that type of thing, including games like Fallout. The differentiator is that there’s not a lot out there that goes for historical realism, and this does it better than I’ve seen it ever done before. Sure, alchemy isn’t particularly realistic, nor is becoming a master swordsman in an afternoon of training - but let’s be honest. Henry the ineffectual peasant, sitting for weeks in an infirmary after a sword wound from his first attempt at combat, finally succumbing to infection because of a lack of medicine wouldn’t be the most entertaining vision of realism. But, generally we’re playing in a non-magical world with somewhat believable societies, based on somewhat probably history, unlike what you might find in other games of this type.

The Witcher, just saying…

I agree. Combat in Skyrim is freaking terrible.

I felt like Oblivion would be a better comparison for KCD. I will always go back to replay Oblivion if I can, but Skyrim? I don’t see why people like it (despite I only play as Nords)

Stealth system. I don’t recall KO in Skyrim being same. You can use weapons with bonuses but KCD does not have those.
Lockpicking is different mini-game but also player’s skill is needed.
Pickpocketing in Skyrim is comparing your skills in stealth, sneaking and item’s value showcased as percentage chance, plus other NPC’s vision on you. Time stops. KCD is your prolonging of searching pockets, your skill and sneaking, taking items before timer goes off, there’s chance victim will catch as well as other NPC’s vision.
Wait time in Skyrim changes time of day, in KCD all NPCs move somewhere, furthermore you get hunger and sleeping on in here going.
Fast travel in Skyrim teleports you, KCD transports you on the roads, you can be ambushed.
Speech? Like every game has speech… Wtf
Archery with and without reticle. You can draw bow endlessly in Skyrim.
Hunting is actually just harvesting animal products, any game has it.
Picking herbs is exclusive for all games where is flora. Like every game that has alchemy or potion creation.
You can not read books in KCD unless you learn it first. Any game adds skills after reading recipe or skill book or adds lore, description of enemies.
Horses, cough, Witcher 3.
So forcing comparison of Skyrim and KCD? Nope, doesn’t work for me.
The only same thing these two games have is level progression in skills, you didn’t even mention it.

I see many similarities.
For one, you can drink potions for health and stamina and healing.
Another protects you from being injured in combat.
You can poison weapons in both.

All the things you mentioned have similarities, except combat and archery.
And I, like you, prefer KCDs combat system. Much more challenging and realistic.
I like being able to see myself mounting the horse.

I like the lighting, trees, rocks, scenery, alchemy mechanics, armor repair overall in KCD a lot more.
I think there are many more improvements in KCD over Skyrim, and man I loved Skyrim!

I didn’t think I would like being locked in to a character, but I did, because Henry is a likeable guy, and not bad looking. He flatters me and he is much younger.

I look forward to WHS fixing most of the little annoying problems and fixing ALL of their game crashes.
