TitanFall Anyone?

I was just curious if anyone is planning on getting TitanFall for PC/Xbox One/Xbox360? I played both the Alpha and Beta and it was a lot of fun!

I have to admit, I haven’t played either the alpha or the beta, so some might consider my opinion invalid, but I have seen multiple gameplay videos, and I am disappointed to say the least.

Sure, it’s really fun, but it could have been so much more. The campaign mode is lackluster and is only played to get the other two titans, that’s it. The final version only added about two more options to every list in game, and while some might think that’s a lot, it told me two things;

  1. Because there wasn’t a lot more options added to the final version, you were basically playing the full game minus 25% of it during the beta. And that’s a letdown if you were expecting more.

  2. If this is the final version (without possible DLCs) how long will it be fun before the lack of customization (for example, only three titans) makes it boring?

(EDIT) All in all, I might get this game just to play with my Angry Army buddies, but I don’t think this will be the system seller Microsoft wants it to be.

That being said, I was thinking that a cool option for the game would be the ability to implement tactics, like dragon age or better level tactics, that your titan would follow while in AI mode. For example:

Select a priority target: Titan or infantry
When engaging Titans use (fill in the blank ability)
When being ridden, your Titan will take/use (fill in the blank action)
When engaging infantry use (fill in the blank ability)
When low on health, take/ use (fill in the blank action)
Your Titan plays what role? Assault/Support/Tank/etc

Just a neat idea, but I don’t think they’ll implement something like this.

I had it preordered until I played the beta, then cancelled my order. After all the “Game of the year” hype, I just wasn’t that excited by what I saw. I know there’s a lot that we didn’t see but it felt repetitious. If there was some sort of story attached in any way I might have felt different. My son is still getting it so I may give it another chance for what it’s worth.

That would be pretty neat implementing RPG elements like that. Would make it more tactical.

Its definitely not GOTY, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. I cannot wait to see what the online campaign is going to be about. My friends and I had fun playing so partnering up with them online is going to be fun! Cannot wait to see what else is in store for this game!

As far as design goes, it is interesting in its blend of two types of shooters and attempt to blend the more atmospheric setting of a singplayer shooter to hectic run n gun multiplayer. Also its core gameplay is good enough to carry it without massive amount of content - a silly expectation from a game release in any case with these development cycles.

Shame about the singleplayer being seemingly filler, but the game itself has a good feel to it, good flow. Which is difficult to achieve, its emergent in its nature.

It’s getting great reviews so far. It has an average of 87 from 28 critics. http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/titanfall/critic-reviews

looks and plays exactly like call of duty, with gimmicks like parkour, mechs and jetpacks thrown in. i mean people are going crazy over stupid things like an animation where you rip people out of a mech, which in gameplay terms is about the most uninteresting thing you could do(tap e to kill/press e to win).

i don’t know why people keep buying this kind of game. have they tapped into the perfect formula for a game or something?

whatever it is they’re doing(probably just huge marketing campaign), i ain’t buying it.

I played it for a few and it feels and plays great with no hiccups. I saw the reviews and its been pretty positive so far!

I am curious about the campaign because (and I could be wrong) that it is played out online with friends. I need to do some more research, but hopefully it will be a decent story. (though I do not expect it to be groundbreaking)

Thanks for responding and giving your opinion. Like I said, I have played both the Alpha/Beta and now a little bit of the game and it does play and feel like COD to a certain degree, but honestly I am finding that it is really fun. Cannot give a full honest player review yet, but I am definitely having a good experience so far. At least the game is running fine unlike some EA published games I know like Brokenfield 4.

I have played Titanfall during the beta and i think it isn´t so good. For a AAA Game with a price of 60€ i would expect more. If you like Mecha games try Hawken. You have a lot more possibilities to adjust your Mecha to your playstile and the maps are fantastic. Plus the basic game is free and not pay to win =)

Nope.

Nowadays I just play Red Orchestra 2 and CS:GO + trying Loadout and looking at Hawken.

So I don’t have need for TitanFall.

Yet Another Call of Duty; This time with MECHS! Lolz!

You won’t be disappointed…

When I first saw it I was tempted, but then I read it was only available on Origin, and saw through beta lets plays how limited it was so decided to pass. There are other games that are free and just as good suck as Hawken mentioned earlyer.

Hawken is a considerably different kind of beast.

Anyway the NPC bit. At first it seems pointless and perhaps it is. They, them are essentially the group of soldiers that get blown up in any war movie, little more than bloody bits of scenery. But I see what they tried to do.

Between spawns and their inevitable demise these grunts run around clearing buildings, engaging opposition grunts. Yelling out useful info the pilots and engaging in these bizarre and visceral scenes ( Think the death of the character Stanely Mellish in Saving Private Ryan ) where they fight tooth and nail against their adversary or drag their comrades to safety or slowly die crying for their mother.

It is rather odd and perhaps again pointless, quite assuredly pointless if you cynically write it off as Modern Warfare in space - which in fact will of course be the next installment of that prostitute of a series.

Whether it is to be good or not ( even if good means nailing the flow of combat and nothing else ) it remains to be seen. But it should be cheaper considering its supposed lack of content.
