TitanFall Anyone?

Yet it’s one of the most important aspects of a game for most people, and in spite of ‘fun’ being formed by a lot of smaller building blocks, vast majority of gaming community won’t really derive much from you talking about individual elements of gunplay and movement system, which both contribute heavily to a fun FPS gameplay. So, fun it is.

that would be marketing. lol

I have to say that I am loving Titanfall but I can only play it for about an hour at a time. Any more than that and I feel a bit drained. I may be doing too much running in the game and the rapid pace seems to be a bit too much. I much prefer the pacing of BF4.

you said “its core is fun”, that makes no sense. fun isn’t an inherent quality of a piece of work or a game. it’s something that has to be experienced on the user side.

It’s not really something I’m considering. It looks really boring with its twitch combat mechanics, its exaggerated animation speeds, and bare bones single player mode. The sound quality sounds good and its visuals are alright, nothing spectacular, but alright, and its multiplayer is supposedly fun, though that comes from CoD fans which holds me back quite a bit since I really don’t like CoD.

In truth I just can’t see anything redeeming about it. It’s another CoD clone that is just set in the future and has a big budget. It has average visuals and like most FPS anymore it has a boring and bar bones story. I’m someone who values a good story with pacing and buildup. I get disjointed when someone just slaps a weapon in your hand and tells you to “Go kill stuff,” and around every corner there is something spectacular that occurs to such degree that it becomes boring. I need time to explore the narrative, to appreciate the lul in combat, and to get to know the characters outside of combat where my attention is divided. To me this seems to me to be the biggest shortfall of these types of games. It’s all about the action and everything else is half-assed to the point that it feels like an intentional jab at people who enjoy things outside the combat. I here a lot of comparison between CoD and Battlefield, but to me they are almost indistinguishable. The only well done stage in BF4 I felt was the carrier mission. In that stage the player had to go 15 minuets without running into a single enemy. In that time-span they developed the story and atmosphere. It was slow paced which let tension build up to give it a sense of mystery. So when combat did start I felt like there was a point to it beyond simply getting past them to the next group. I felt interested in the game for a moment because everything else just felt like an adult dangling his keys in-front of my face.

Hated CoD when I played it during a free weekend, but Titanfall is nothing like it. I started pc gaming with Duke Nukem 3d, Half-Life and was really into TFC until they removed bunny hopping. I really enjoyed the fast paced skill-based movement and the tactics that could be invented. It was challenging because everyone could have their own playstyle instead of the modern FPS cover, point-click and shoot strategy. Titanfall brings me back to that. But then again what annoys me about it in-game is considering there are alot of CoD players, they play using that mundane and opportunistic “camping” style. I’m not that good with titans but pilot vs titan is fun as hell, feels dangerous and it’s so satisfying to lure someone out of their titan by hopping on top, hopping off and shooting them in the face. If you say it’s another CoD clone, then obviously haven’t played it in the way it’s meant to be played. The only other beef I have with it is the price and the lack of depth in campaign - it’s basically same old multiplayer game modes with some narrative and cutscenes that you don’t pay attention to anyway because of the constant action. Also the in-game matchmaking seems rushed.

I’m fairly certain people would understand what I mean by “it’s core is fun”, and I never said fun was a feature of the game, what you might be confused with is the difference between this:

"Titanfall! Now with:

Parkour!
Those suits from StarCraft but bigger!
Fun!
A disappointing campaign!"
