To the Devs: Would you ever consider making an Arma style Combat Sim?

I love Arma, I love Kingdom Come Deliverance. Arma is a great concept but it’s got a lot of trouble, there’s a lot it seems to want to do but just can’t get right, especially when it comes to Multiplayer, really low frames despite computer specs, lag, strange AI ect… Though I think Arma’s biggest weakness is a lack of immersive atmosphere. What I, and many others I believe, want in a game like that is the ability to drive around a packed market place with people bustling and then bang, IED goes off and insurgents are shooting at you from the rooftops ect… While this persistent world of random events is happening you’d also have the ability to make missions using an in-game mission editor to set various parameters (like time of day, weather ect…) and of course, make the mission.

It would become a living, breathing world, with tactical, team based, immersive 1st person combat (with a 3rd person option), driving, and flying. Realistic large world maps, with sprawling cities that truly come alive and feel like you’re actually there. It’d be great to be able to get on with a few friends and create a mission, or just go out into the world and see what happens. It’d be even greater to get 30 friends on and do the same.

Now you may be wondering “why would we do that?” Well you seem to have mastered the Cry Engine (getting 1200 extremely complex AI to run all at the same time is pretty damn impressive!!) and you’re into making realistic games with realistic systems without all the BS fluff magic (which there’s a surprising amount of in War FPS games). I mean wow, if you guys could make an Arma style game with the Cry Engine at the level you’re making KC:D, with that level of detail and immersion, I think it’d be a huge success! I know you’d get literally everyone who plays Arma to buy it. Hell you’d probably get a good chunk of the Battlefield and Rainbow Six markets as well!

I just keep imagining sitting in a beautifully modeled Humvee talking to my buddies while driving around on a patrol. RPG comes in, blows up the lead Humvee, the convoy takes evasive action, stops, we dismount, all dressed in variations of the same uniform/equipment (using your epic layering system). People are running through the streets into their homes to take cover. There’s dirt kicked up everywhere, the humvee is on fire, as we return fire some of our guys go to grab the wounded out of the other humvee while a second team moves to clear the building with the insurgents in it. Things are getting worse, so we call to our buddies back at base for air support who proceed to fly in with two Apache Longbow II attack helicopters. One of the men from the humvee is still alive but we don’t have anymore real players but that’s okay because you have epic AI, so we radio for a CASEVAC and a combat rescue blackhawk takes off from base to fly in and evac the wounded man.

Open this up to the mod community to make more vehicles, weapons, camo, armor, equipment, and maps and you’ve got a serious, serious game that’ll thrive for a very, very long time. (Including a radio/ 3Dspacial VOIP system like ACRE or Task Force Radio would also be a HUGE plus.) (The ability to parachute from planes, fast rope from helicopters, and repel from buildings would also be huge.)

Anyhow, what I’ve described is a bit of a dream of mine and was wondering if any of you folks have a similar dream? Or would ever consider making a game like that? It feels like you’ve already mastered a lot of the components (large world, lots of complex AI, layering system, accurate weapons/combat, actual realism, graphic awesomeness ect…). I know you’re so busy with KC:D the next project probably hasn’t crossed your mind, I’m just curious if that’s something you’d ever consider? To me, if any studio in the world were to do it, yours would be the one to do it right.

Anyhow, if you happen to see this, thanks for taking the time to read it! Keep on kicking ass, KC:D is brilliant thus far and I can’t wait to see what you deliver next!!

Cheers!

why? arma already exists.

The “why” is outlined in the post

Edit: That’s a bit like asking why they’d make KC:D when Mount&Blade exists.

Imagine flying 550 km/h over 4x4 km map… yay.

So I think that would be easier to let ARMA evolve to what you describe than if Warhorse try to do it after KC:D.

Not mention that they probably would like to use what theyve learned about medieval in their next project then start research over aggain I guess.

PS But yeah, I also imagined few times that somebody with their attitue should make WW2 tank / infantry game so you are not only with similar unrealistic dream :- )

ArmA is based on Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, so original game is not ArmA but Flashpoint (really! I am big ArmA and Flashpoint fan, but ArmA is basically only a more beautiful and bigger Flashpoint with some more options. There is no big difference between ArmA and Flashpoint). Leaddesigner of Flashpoint was Viktor Bocan, who is now one of the major designers at Warhorse Studios making Kingdom Come Deliverance.

So, people of Warhorse know ArmA very well, because they invented it…
Why should they copy their own game, if there is Bohemia Interactive caring about ArmA series pretty well?

I think its great idea, but something that should be a concern for the future.

I think what the OP wants to see (in a nutshell) is warhorse (or potentially another Dev) to take as much time researching, being passionate, their attention to detail, the technology advances and apply them to a modern world Specifically focusing on military.

I personally would love to see what would happen if the warhorse team were to focusing on making a game like GTA.

Precisely, I want an Arma style game but one that actually, ya know, works lol

So that’s the thing, Arma doesn’t do it well. It’s almost unplayable, very poor optimization, extremely basic AI, control doesn’t feel smooth and fluid. The Concept of Arma is great, the gameplay and technical aspects need a lot of work, in fact it’s really the modders that make the game playable, adding interesting equipment, features and improved AI, as well as all kinds of functionality (such as fast roping, radio comms, medical system ect…)

I played Flashpoint, and I liked it. Not that Flashpoint is relevant to this thread but I did like it. The thing about Arma is it feels centered around multiplayer therefor they need to get it right and they just haven’t been able to do that. Warhorse on the other hand has the know how, the engine, and care to do it properly. Arma doesn’t have bustling cities with hundreds of AI walking around, talking, looking and feeling real. Warhorse could make a game that has that. Arma doesn’t have a persistent game world with random events triggering such things as IED attacks, insurgent assaults, things like this. Warhorse could do it. Arma is completely static whereas warhorse could create a world that is completely dynamic and interesting. If you’ve ever played Arma multiplayer you should know exactly what I’m talking about. There are a few mods to try and remedy it but they just don’t get it right ( a big part of it is the engine that they use, they should move over to the cryengine in my opinion, it’d be a lot of work, but they should put in the effort.)

In essence, the things I listed in my OP are things Arma, essentially, doesn’t do, or doesn’t do nearly well enough. Which is why I think it would take a developer like Warhorse to make a game like that that’s actually playable.

see, I thought the OP was going to argue for a medieval mil-sim. which would be kind of epic, most of the time on arma I just play around with the editor making random scenarios. might be fun with a medieval aspect to it. play as a group of revolting peasants ambushing a column of knights, or a small group of hardened men at arms against the same revolting mob. large scale battles, night battles, battles in massive storms, sieges, etc. totally unrealistic but fun idea to play around with

vavra has never shown any interest in an arma style game. also, arma style games are better left to mil sim developers.

otherwise, it’s just a sandbox shooter

Mount&Blade and KC:D are very different games.
