A lot of people seem to have misunderstood this game. Complaining about skill based mechanics like combat, archery, lockpicking, pickpocketing etc. As an ordinary person, you cant expect to be good at any of those things right at the beginning. This is meant to be realistic, which means you gotta struggle and practice till you get to a decent level. Other complains include the game not holding your hand through the quest, no straightforward quest markers, expecting the NPCs to wait for you, skipping dialog and missing the objective of the quest etc etc. Its almost as if people are expecting this game to be skyrim. Your choices and the way you mold Henry really do matter in this game and you’re expected to play accordingly. FFS JUST GIT GUD PEOPLE
Most peoples complaining I saw on Twitch were peoples doing absolutely stupid stuff and getting caught or suffering the consequences from it.
In other games there are no consequences so that’s probably why some peoples are complaining because they are just used to it. So for this game if peoples aren’t good at lock-picking and sneaking then better not do it its not really needed anyway. I somehow also have the suspicion this call for save-games has something to do with peoples failing at Rogue and wanting to savescum.
I have nothing against improving save situation but personally I don’t really need it. The game does not crash and when I want to save I just sleep in a bed.
As for the game I am not far in but fights against bandits and also fistfights are stupidly easy. And if you get some money and equipment on the side (for me from picking herbs mostly) and train your skills then I feel the rest of the game might be as well.
I’ll just quote a part of my steamreview:
You won’t be an Elite-Dragonborn-Swordfighting-Bowwielding-Assassin-Lord-Terminator after 5 minutes into this game. Let’s be honest here: You might as well never reach that hilariously allmighty overpower-status. But I don’t see a problem with it - I would rather call it a strong part of the game: It makes your decision matter. Not only for others, but for you as well.
There are some who complain about not being able to win a fight against a dozen enemies in the very beginning - but hey, guys, what did you expect? “Blacksmith-son goes godlike with healthcheat in the medieval era”? Oh please…
I don’t want to spoiler here, but this game doesn’t allow you to be the hero without putting any effort in. No, you’ll need to think about your decisions, be aware of your environment and use your brain instead of following plain, predictable paths.
You as well as your character will grow with the quests that you make - and believe me, it’s a LOT more satisfying than the plain “Hello, I am the hero, please applaud me”-experience that we’re used to from games like Skyrim or Witcher.

damn right M8 !! This game is truly different and that is good. It is more Simulation than any other Rpg. You can´t compare it to the Witcher or Skyrim etc… Many Gamers see the Vids, the nice Graphics and think ooo jeaah , Skyrim without Fantasy. It is not, deal with it and get used to it or leave it be. I can understand the Critics about the Bugs and Glitches, there are many and that is terrible but the Core Gamemechanics work just fine and I love it.
I think the difficulty is perfect for this game. This is what they announced and what people wanted in the first place.
But, to be honest, i would like to have the option to change it. You might want to show it to a friend wo get’s his ass kicked, or you might want to even have a harder challenge. I would just like to have the option to change it for myself. There might be times you do not want a challenge, but just immerse yourself in a great game. So i understand people that would like an option.
I cant agree more
From the moment the game released people started making accounts to enter the forums and complain about nonsense. How many times did the devs explain this to them? It has been said many times. These are people who saw the game and said, “New game huh? Medieval RPG?! Like Skyrim or Witcher 3!? I’ll buy it.” 1 hour later, “I want a refund!! It’s too hard and I can’t git gud.” Or the frame rate junkies wanting high fps all the time, as soon as it drops from 60 fps, they loose their fking minds.
Well said sir ! I also disable quest markers on my map. I’m a bit annoyed that they don’t let us customise HUD to only display things when necessary, because if I disable markers in my map, thay are still displaying on my compass.
Agreed!
The game has been painstakingly crafted to give a specific experience. It’s not supposed to be a sandbox power-fantasy. There are a lot of complaints about the game, labeling it as bad simply down to players not understanding the game they’re playing.
Things take time, you need to learn them, level them up, invest in them and actually get good at something before it goes well. Not start a fresh character in Skyrim and be a sneaky master thief within 30 minutes… shit you won’t even have made a dent in the tutorial of KC:D by then!
I’ll get so much hate for telling you this, but I just can’t resist.
Please note: I am a Kickstart backer, so I didn’t just create an account now to complain.
As I said in a lockpicking-centered discussion, it’s not just that lockpicking is difficult. I’m ok with that, and the fact that I’m a poor smith’s son who lived until today drinking beer and throwing shit to german houses. It’s that the game actually punishes me when I try to improve: if I run of lockpins I can only think about save the game before trying so I can reload, or sell a lot of stuff just to try and get another shot (which I will probably fail again). I just want to know how should I improve when every time I try I run out of chances? I just revert to “plan B” and put my lockpicking dreams into a drawer.
Just like swords and archery, I think we just need a way to safely improve the technique, without such a huge punishment. Or improve the skill by just failing.
It could be really difficult to get in the Game and the Mechanics with all These annoying Bugs. This is a real Problem for a Game with such a big living World and Warhorse had to deal with it soon. So I can understand some People with their Critics but even with no Bugs , the Game is and will be still different ( and it feels soo fresh and new in this Generation where most Games are lacking challenges and new experiences ). Some Mechanics are really a pain in the ar…, like lockpicking or archery. This Needs a litlle Tuning or polish , the controlls are a mess.
Agreed this game is brilliant in my opinion. Yeah the lock picking is hard but it should be, when I first attempted to pick a lock it was probably Henry’s first attempt to pick a lock.
Also the sword fighting is brilliant. Defiantly a combat system I can really get into. Also because you are just a black smiths son and have no experience in sword fighting except for a few basic lessons how the hell do you expect to be able to take on a heavy armoured knight who has training his whole life in swordplay.
It makes you think about your plan of attack and if something goes go wrong you have to adapt… like when my lockpick broke in Talmberg lol
Because Henry is such a novice at the skills in this game you really can mold him down the skill path you really want to play.
I saw someone complaining that they couldn’t stealth very well… but they were head to toe in plate armour lol what did they expect
“but they were head to toe in plate armour lol what did they expect” Lol that is another the problem. People cant co-relate skills. They dont even bother to read the specific buffs of different armor and weapons. I made a strength based character and equipped a short sword and a shield. I was swinging the sword around like a moron until i realized i didnt have enough agility to wield it properly. Switched to a longsword that matches my skills and voila, i can cut down cumans like butter
I’m only a few hours into the game so far (on PS4 Pro) and I’m loving the difficulty! The first time i got into a fist fight I lost badly, however, the next time i got into a fight I started to get the hang of it! The same with swordplay
I used up all of my first set of Lock-picks trying to to open a chest, but by the time i got to my last lock-pick, i was very close to being successful! I may of failed, but its increasing my skill points which ultimately will make it much easier as I progress…
Love this game
Amen, brother! (or sister)
I love this game, because i challenges me to think instead of just smashing shit up. I love that I got my ass beaten by people because i couldn’t convince them to do whatever it was I wanted them to do, I love that I had to sell my clothes to buy a lockpick to try to get a chest opened, which I did, after 5 tries, only to be spotted and arrested. I am so far terrible at this games but that’s the reason why I will keep playing, because there are no shortcuts, no cheats to become better, it’s all on me.
It gives you a sense of mild fear. Unlike the rpgs I’ve played before where I just entered into tense moments not giving a shit. But this game really for the first time made me feel nervous when I engaged in combat for the first time or tried lockpicking/pickpocketing with my character. It made me think and look around and take certain steps before engaging in a crime. No game has ever managed to do this before for me atleast. That’s the best part about it
The difficulty is what makes this game fun, other wise ( lets be honest here) this game would be a boring as other games do some of what this game does but better. It is the struggle to learn and think that most games are missing now a days . Can I charge in the rags I’m wearing only have just now barely learn how to use a sword and kill 4 heavy plated mercs about to … well do bad stuff to someone as I’m running out of town? Hell no ! If you can think fast you do have other options. Thats what makes this game fun. I read in another post and well thought out quote… " This game requires a Different Mind Set then most games" . Now think about that quote… requires a different mind set… you can’t play this game like Sykrim or any other RPG becuase it’s not nor was it designed to be.
During the prolong in town I was having issues collecting the debt for the hammer, axe and nails. I fought the guy and lost … A LOT! I but by losing so much and restarting at the last save I got better and learned how the fighting mechanics works. I applied the same thought process to lockpicking, I restarted at the last save and talked to the GF at the tavern to get the schnapps. I talked my way through the debt collection and now had to lock pick the chest. I then used a schnapps to save and started lockpicking . I failed restarted save failed did it again and picked the lock but I then went back and restarted the save and kept doing that to practice lockpicking. Now I’m a lockpicking god. I had to find a way to practice both fist fighting and locking when there are no clear way to do so… Different mind set. Now while playing I’m looking at all the angles in any situation.
So Warhorse do not change the difficulty it’s fine, BTW while there are a few bugs here and there great freaking game.
