Treasure maps...what am I missing?

So, I decided to go hunt me some treasures… the first map is easy enough, the spot is found quickly, especially with these twigs marking the ways.

But…once the end of the path is reached…there is nothing…zilch…zero. not even an option to dig…

What am I missing here?

Screenshots? Actual info about map and place? You are missing everything important here.

The fisrt map…that is Map #1.
From the charcoal burners south-south-east of Neuhof, you follow the trail into the woods, to a ruined house and then a bit further into the woods. There is some sort of pond. but absolutely nothing to do.

Ancient map I

At the burnt house site, there is a chest, but it is a very ahrd lock, and I don’t have ANY lockpicking skill. so with the Ancient treasures being a reward for backers, I don’t know if they’d be locked this way? because then the very first ‘treasureÄ’ would be eternally walled off for a somewhat honest Henry.

Yeah, this one is hard to find. But first, there is chest near burned house you found. But to find treasure itself you must go further into forest. You will pass hanging body and then you will see the grave.
Here is a random video that shows how to find it:

so, the branches lying on the ground really don’t have anything to do with it?

They are poacher’s (or maybe gamewarden’s) signs.

trying to find ancient treasure #II

One “this is no time for roving” after the other, going due southeast off every single stupid pebble along that miserable road. These maps sure aren’t a great help. Nor are the random unexplained but interesting looking spots…

To frustrating to be an exciting treasure hunt, and more and more a case of insta-youtube-ing.

go to the east from the first locked chest you found and the hanging body you need to go really far in

Yea the chest at the burnt out cabin isn’t it, keep going east in the woods you’ll find a grave. There is a knocked over wheelbarrow by it.

god forbid the game doesn’t spell everything out for you. maybe they should teleport you to the spot as soon as you open the treasure map.

I find it really refreshing that the maps are hard to dechipher. I’ve had trouble finding the few treasures I’ve found and I guess the others will prove equally challening to find. I noticed that I just have to try harder!

It makes it so much more rewarding when you do end up finding that treasure though. Resist the YouTube temptation good sir!

But yes, the scale for basically all the maps is off so a lot of the treasure maps will require at least a little bit of walking around looking for a grave/landmark.

The burnt out cabin with the chest threw me off. It didn’t feel right. It was my first hunt for the ancient maps, I was expecting a grave like the other maps but ran across the chest thinking it must be it. Checked online and found out it wasn’t so then kept searching. I always liked the treasure maps on RDR too.

The chest at the burnt house and the sticks on the ground were pretty effective means to totally derail you.

And the 2nd map, well, scale aside, it tells you to go suoth-east once you’ve reached a few large rocks. I walked southeast to the end of the map from every single rock on that damn road, and nothing. once I got to the spot thanks to youtube, and reveresed to due north-west, lo and behold, there was not a single rock anywhere near where one gets back on the road again. So at least in that case, the map is actively misleading.

There is a miniscule difference between spelling everything out for you teleporting you to places magically, and say, giving a map that is not actively misleading.
