That is an interesting opinion considering that the vote on the Chamber of Deputiesâ position to the EU Gun Ban was 142 out of 144 present AGAINST.
As it happens ÄSSD is the party that is now proposing a constitutional amendment that will in one form or another ensure the right to be armed. Chovanec already made it public that their aim is to have it voted in before autumn election - so when I was talking about single issue voters having about 20% share in the upcoming elections, it seems that their party also got the same memo and they decided to make use of it.
This also seems to be their way of fulfilling the promise that âshould the EU Gun Ban be passed with carve out for militia, everyone will be considered militia in the Czech Republic.â
In general we will see what the position will be in the vote of the European Council. If ÄSSD decides they want to sway the 20% in own favor we could expect vote against the proposal (quite possibly as the only EU country) and subsequent judicial challenge (the way Slovaks are now fighting the migrant quotas in front of the ECJ).
It is clear that Chovanec is patiently waiting for Sobotka to go down to take his place; given that Chovanec is populist and that he has learned that taking gun control position even after mass shooting actually terribly harms his ratings, I am quite hopeful.
