Well the court told you to give 'em chance, not to change the system to “life means 12”.
Here the most tough life sentence means that the convict must serve 20 years in “less than maximum prison” while the court orders initial 10 years in maximum. Only if he has perfect behavior record for ten initial years he can upgrade to less than maximum and then he still has to keep it perfect for each consecutive day. So 30 years is usually first option to ask for parole and most are denied, until they are old, frail and about to die.
Our sentences have always been unpopular in the UK as they are often very tame .
It’s an area the government has pledged to get tougher on but I doubt they will . However saying that there have been a few cases in the last few years where the judge has told the defendant that they will die in prison so in fairness it depends on the judge if they think someone has been particularly cruel e.g smashed the shit out of someone with a hammer . Then they will put them away for the rest of their life .
But a simple stabbing then your looking at 15 years and you lol be out in most cases .
Then you have people like Charles bronson who has served 40+ years so far for less than murder

Hey, you can’t have it both ways. Either the evil ECHR (no, that is a completely different court than the EU court of justice) prevents you from handing life sentences, or it doesn’t.
Correct my personal favourite … he stripped naked and covered himself in butter so when the guards came into restrain him they couldn’t get a grip of him . So yea assault on 2 officers there . It carries on with similar stories mostly just fights nothing major
This is where I often scratch my head too . It does prevent us or supposed to anyway but yes some cases we seem to get away with it but they are far and few between

You are kidding but communists actually had a plan for a tunnel under entire Europe to Adriatic sea. The material excavated from the tunnel was supposed to be used for an island in international waters.
