Because our founders wanted a limited government, and saw that widespread civilian firearm ownership could let them get away with a small military and police force.

Additionally many of them state it as a safeguard against tyrannical government, and as way of defending your life and personal property. Like it or not a fire arm is the most effective self defense tool. Guns are the great equalizer, you know the old saying “god may have created man, but Samuel colt made them equal”.

that was wrote in a time where the military used only rifles so you could actually beat them . whats your AR-15 going to do against a tank or predator drone . the second amendment as a tool to overthrow government is out of date because you are no longer anywhere near on a level playing ground with the government in terms of weapons .

i dont dispute however i would say its basically impossible to police such zones in the US without having border style security …so yes they simply become gun free to law abiding citizens . so no i wouldnt support such zones in the US .

The main issue right now is that this right is enshrined in a normal law, i.e. simple majority in parliament may alter it.

That is why the constitutional amendment is so important.

Cannons were available for civilian ownership during that time as well.

Also if you want to go that route, the first amendment was written back then as well, so it should only apply to books, and actual speech, not the internet, phones, computers, T.V ect.

You’re not factoring rules of engagement, or the troops hesitating fighting their own people. Rules of engagement are generally always strict when fighting against an insurgency because they obviously do not want to alienate the local populace which would lead to more insurgents.

The rules would be even stricter in the U.S than in Afgan or Nam for instance. You wouldn’t see the government mass carpet bombing their own cities, because it would be completely counter productive. They would have to be extremely careful with how they dealt with it, and would essentially have their hands tied behind their backs. The populace already flips shit when cops shoot a violent criminal, images of U.S troops raiding homes for weapons, and collateral damage would be extremely bad pr.

The insurgents how ever would pretty much have free reign to attack government forces, granted they would have qualms about fighting their countrymen, but it would be less jumping through hoops for them than the government.

I never said defeat, i said wear down. It would be a game of who gives up first, which is what happened to us in Vietnam. We decimated them in most engagements, but the willingness to bleed was much higher on their part so we gave up eventually because they would not break.

The military would get tired of losing men, and fighting their own people, and many of the military would likely even sympathies with the insurgencies cause.

Sort of similar to the Chinese civil war. A lot of the nationalists forces ended up defecting to the communist side after the conflict was prolonged for several decades.

2A also allows people to defend themselves against violent thugs, like the recent examples with Antifa, because the cops wont.

You don’t see them pulling that shit in cities that allow CC.

And I will most probably get a gaming PC to rig it to the TV too (unless I decide in the end to settle for a playstation and use the money for something more useful, like mortgage).
