lies all lies its a conspiracy.
Heâs denying it so we canât sue when they publish a troll cave book and make millions.
It doesnât support your argument what so ever .
The position of the gun is irrelevant , itâs role however doesnât change and has never changed and that is to pour as many rounds down on the enemy as possible . To suppress .
Yes it does, the role of the machine gunner was simply to engage the enemy squad while the riflemen protected its flanks. It was generally the opposite for the allies.
What exactly is the point of suppressing the enemy, when your riflemen arenât moving up to out maneuver and kill them?
let me explain to you the basics of a fire fight . and listen.
the first objective of any firefight . be it WW1 , WW2 , gulf war whatever time frame nation etc . is to gain fire superiority this is determined by what side can put down the most sustained rate of accurate fire on their opponents position .
the second phase is to manoeuvre . manoeuvre and eliminate .
that is the basics of every singe fire fight . that is the aim . as it was for the germans in WW2 and for the allies . where tactics differ is how this is achieved . this is where you get somewhat confused and i can see exactly why you have come to the conclusion you have .
the germans actually used tactics which are used today and were the basics of what i was taught and what is taught today except its been changed slightly . the germans wrote the book on this .
ill stick with the german tactic as its the topic here . but i will explain .
the german unit will advance as a whole . they receive contact .
the german machine gunner will get down and engage . a long burst is let off at the enemy position followed by multiple other bursts until the enemy is killed or at the very least putting there heads down . by doing this the germans have achieved fire superiority . they then enact phase 2 as the entire german unit including machine gun advance forward and repeat the process . until they are close enough for the german riflemen to throw grenades into the enemy position or overrun it .
thats the german WW2 tactic .
today its done ever so slightly different . rather than the entire unit moving forward as one . we split the unit into 2 Alpha and bravo .
alpha will suppress while bravo moves up a few feet or too the next bit of cover and begins suppressing . bravo moves up a few feet and gets down and suppresses , alpha moves up another few feet and continues suppressing . this is done until the enemy position is overrun.
so i will repeat the role of the machine gunner is too suppress and achieve fire superiority in a firefight .
what the germans did different to the allies was they moved the entire unit as one where as the allies would split it all up into riflemen , MG team etc . and the MG would stay back and suppress from behind . the germans as i explained advanced together as a single unit . that is what was different and made them so effective
vz.26/BREN was a light machine gun. MG 42 was a general purpose machine gun, which was also about half heavier than vz.26/BREN.
Czech(oslovak) army didnât have MG 42 equivalent - there was heavy machine gun vz.37 though.
Here is vz.37 on Yemeni army APC - picture taken in 2012.

BTW, vz.37 could take 2.500 rounds before barrel change (5 minutes of continuous fire) - would that provide enough spread in your view?
could not comment I have not seen the weapon in action and know nothing of its record .
You know it under British license name - Besa.
Although in the Czechoslovak army it was used also as a unit support gun while in UK it seems it was used as a mounted gun only.
