Those are different ranges.
Russians set 300m for full auto and 400 for semi-auto. This was connected with their military doctrine - get within 300m of enemy in APC and then let the soldiers out.
M16 is rated 460m point target and 800m area target. I am no M16 specialist but from all I’ve read before buying PAR MK3 for my GF, 800m is considered the top maximum for AR 15 platform in 5.56 with high quality optics.
I would expect the AK 47 to have about the same effective range as vz.58 (with slightly less precision).
Which is why I am considering AR 10 as my next gun purchase (among other options).
Don’t even consider fully-auto it’s never ever ever used like fucking never .
Isn’t that more of a British Army specialty? I remember reading how UK soldiers went at Falklands with burst-only rifles and got back with Argentinian full-autos 
Never heard that one before and no it’s not a British thing . That’s a modern professional military thing .
Burst is not used either. inaccurate and a waste of munitions . Semi auto only . Even the fucking yanks don’t use full auto on rifles .
That’s why we have designated machine gunners 
To this day I have never witnessed a professional soldier use anything but semi-auto outside of the realms of a bit of fun on a range .

It was the norm to use full auto Vietnam when the military stressed volume of fire over accuracy, the earliest version of the M-16 had severe overheating issues (the barrel would melt in some cases) but you also have to take into consideration soliders were told they did not have to clean their weapons, because it was a “self cleaning gun”.
Well most western politicians are big on the whole PC, censor speech bullshit so the fact that she isn’t keen it would make her unique.
I would still think the M-16 would be more accurate than the Ak-47, it’s barrel is quite a bit longer (this could be a disadvantage in close quarters, and is one of the main reason the military is switching to the M4), and it has significantly less recoil. This may just be my opinion but i also vastly prefer the iron sights on an M-16.

I’m not sure about in Vietnam but certainly today it’s semi-auto , that’s it In all modern armed forces
The thought of automatic fire from an assault rifle is not even mentioned . That’s the machine gunners job with a bigger weapon .
Looking into it it seems you are right however after the Vietnam war the us military reexamined their use of the rifles in combat. During this evaluation, it was determined that firing on full auto past three rounds largely resulted in a complete waste of ammunition

It’s not a great idea to fire off all your ammunition in the first hour of a 13 hour contact

Yeah there were a lot of fuck ups in that war. A conscript only had to be able to hit a target at 25 meters before he was sent into combat facing people who had been fighting for over 20 years.
